There is so much bait-and-switch in Canada’s “digital sovereignty“ (heh) strategy. Bottom line is that building out massive polluting AI data centres to host US tech companies is a form of digital colonialism: they control the tech & the profits, and export the dirtiest, lowest-value part abroad.

The House of Commons is debating the price of food, which is a bit weird because eliminating the carbon tax was supposed to solve that problem.

This story is a big deal. Please give it a read, even if you need to sign up for a one-dollar subscription. This tactic — manipulating chatbots as a backdoor to human beings — is only going to get worse, and Alberta separatism appears to be just a testing ground for these people.

Canada's National Observer@nationalobserver.com

INVESTIGATION: Canada’s National Observer has discovered a network of deceptive, AI-generated websites promoting Albertan separatism. The websites, rather than targeting human readers, are targeting chatbots — trying to influence the answers they provide.

The point of the Senate changes Trudeau made was to restore some semblance of public trust in an institution increasingly seen as a place for political cronies when they tired of the private sector, to live out their days rubber-stamping government legislation, @supriya.bsky.social writes.
