Omg all this time I've been spelling it "buck ass naked"

Merriam-Webster@merriam-webster.com

We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps: -It’s ‘sleight of hand’ -It’s ‘bated breath’ -It’s ‘lo and behold’ -It's 'buck naked' -It’s ‘brass tacks’ -It’s ‘free rein’ -It’s ‘toe the line'

NEW: A company that was recently responsible for gas wells on CFB Wainwright has issued a blistering statement condemning the Orphan Well Association and Alberta Energy Regulator for not closing wells before the fire that killed four soldiers on Saturday.

nationalobserver.comOperational gas wells in CFB Wainwright were ordered closed — but the fire came firstThere’s no publicly available evidence gas wells played a role in the fire. But the company that owned wells on the base is distancing itself from control over them.

People who want to see this as evidence billionaires will flee from taxes will see it that way, but another (better) way to see it is one of the world's most odious companies scrambling to put more money in public coffers

Fort McMurray is the main city servicing the Alberta oilsands, and oil has been at the centre of the separation debate. It’s also probably going to be at the centre of the independence movement going forward — however that looks. (One way: many separatists are already turning on Danielle Smith)

nationalobserver.comAlberta’s separatists aren’t done — but some are done with Danielle SmithFor Alberta's separatists, yesterday's referendum loss is just a setback.

Everyone should get to go in a little plane in their second month on the job. I want to go in a little plane.

Zoe Mason@zoemas0n.bsky.social

Around six weeks ago, I started a new position at the Alberta reporter for @nationalobserver.com. This week, Albertans voted on separation. I spent the past three days in Fort McMurray speaking to people who work in and around Alberta’s oil patch about the referendum.

Unbelievable. We need to demand so much more from our government. This is basic data that was previously available. You don't just scrub the record clean because there's an investigation going on.

This is a publicly funded government agency refusing to share weather warnings and their own public warnings with a journalist at Global News, one of the larger mainstream news outlets in Canada. I really want you to sit with the bare facts of that.

You rubes, you fools, you naive waifs, can’t you see that the future-eating machine is merely devouring the future and therefore your interpretation that the present is endangered is entirely incorrect!

🍁 Attention freelance journalists 🍁 Canada's @nationalobserver.com is looking for your pitches. We have a healthy freelance budget (think potential travel), and are looking to fund interesting, ambitious reporting that dives deep into Canada's climate, energy, and politics.

CBC calls it for the remain side. Now we get to see where the referendum movement metastesizes next — maybe they'll do another road trip! Maybe they'll go to space

Panelist on CBC says emissions reductions regs were like telling people in Ontario we will no longer build cars. It's definitely time for the results to come in, the riffing is getting silly.

Truly if there is an opinion to be held and expressed she will choose the worst version of it and say it badly. Nobody ask her what she thought of the last season of Game of Thrones or she'll show you her Pickle Rick tattoo

Same panelist (who the fuck is this) just said Alberta is a province "whose votes fundamentally don't matter" because it doesn't get to unilaterally choose the federal government. Two of the last three PMs have been from Alberta.

Most of the coverage tonight has been a relitigation of Alberta’s grievances. Talking to separatists whining about Trudeau, panelists whining about Trudeau…and nobody ever really trying to introduce facts to their feelings. Pathetic.

You don't have to do this, @cbcradiocanada.bsky.social. It's a choice. They want to defund you. They think you're a propaganda arm of an evil government. You will never win them over by showing them grace when they show absolutely none towards you.

Godspeed to every journalist and producer trying to keep a referendum night livestream alive with a big 0% - 0% at the bottom of the screen, two and a half hours after polls were expected to close.

The oilsands are at the centre of the separatist conversation, but the people who live and work there say they are on the periphery of Alberta's politics. @zoemas0n.bsky.social travelled to Fort McMurray to gauge the appeal of separatism in Alberta’s oilpatch.

This is something we're seeing more and more of in our climate changed world. Same story with the fire in Summerland this year. Welcome to @johnvaillant.bsky.social's fire weather.
