the chiefs have 96 total yards on offense and the game's not even over yet. i figure if they can get to 100 yards, that's a football field's worth, so that basically counts as a win

ONCE UPON A TIME IN HARLEM: Derives much of its power from a gradual development of its multiplicity of perspectives—both of Greaves’ subjects and temporal lacunae of production—the long-since departed still speak with lively, insightful voices; transportive.

Little surprised more people haven’t compared this to THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND: the early-70s party and mixture of verite and side interviews, a mountain of footage and skillful editing decades later to bring it all together; MVPs Richard B. Moore and Leigh Whipper.

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

Everyone thought Lula was cooked, hopeless. Then he bought a phone and started posting and now he's gonna get a 4th term. The lesson is to never stop posting.

i think people seriously overcomplicate chili. it really only involves three ingredients: water, beans and msg. if there are any foods you’re allergic to, throw some of that in for some added zing. don’t heat the pot. don’t be performative

if you ever happen to see someone post a joke you don't understand or discuss a subject you aren't familiar with, you are well within your right to complain, and perhaps even scold them if necessary. you are their customer and you have rights

don't look now but dabo swinney and his boys are gonna fry the circuits in the bcs computers if they keep snapping off chunk plays down in the swamp

they should get rid of the designated hitter and just let the pitcher try to throw a base hit when it’s his turn at the plate. that’s the way it always should have been

if you're confused whenever football fans post the word "doink": a doink is an unusual and therefore rather exciting procedure in which a coach meets with a line judge to confirm which offensive players have declared themselves eligible to receive. this was often done by giants coach Bruce St. Doink

every sport has a fun term for a weird little oddball occurrence. basketball has the wedgie, where the ball gets stuck between the rim and backboard. football has the doink, where a kick bounces off a goal post. baseball has baseball games

the knicks' ring ceremony was cool. i think marriage should be between two people but at the end of the day it's not really about what i think

Ryan Swen/孫天行/Sun Tien-hsing reposted

i feel kind of bad. this year a bunch of us sports fans on bluesky started posting stuff like "the knicks won the nba finals" and "indiana won the national college football title." it was funny for a while, but we've dragged it on so long that people who don't watch sports think they actually did

they're coming out with a new grand theft auto game just in time for christmas, but you'll have some sad little elves on your hands unless your kids have the newest model of nintendo. be sure to pick up some joysticks, carrying cases, and cleaning kits as well – and don't forget the rf modulator

russell vought: "ha ha ha! there are too many sports on tonight! jon will never be able to follow them all!" me: think again. thanks to my wireless remote control, i can easily flip from the wnba finals, to the alcs, to the nfl – all without getting off the couch russell vought: "noooooooo!!!!!!"

good move by the yankees. he was their manager last year so he has lots of experience already

Aaron Boone is returning as Yankees manager next season, a source confirmed to ESPN. @pcaldera was on the news.

i’m not surprised to see taylor swift at the chiefs game today. her husband is chiefs all-pro tight end and three-time super bowl champion travis kelce, who recently added yet another ring to his collection — a wedding ring

SYMBIOPSYCHOTAXIPLASM: TAKE ONE: Conceives of filmmaking as a truly communal effort, where even non-cast/crew can get swept up in the creative spirit, from which Greaves crafts the right atmosphere for harmonious confusion; knotty yet free and light.

Albee is explicitly namechecked but still remarkable that was the same year as FACES, and to me this has more than a little in common with Cassavetes; astounding use of IN A SILENT WAY; found myself thinking of a version of this projected in Gance’s Polyvision.

ROSE: Sometimes a bit too removed for its own good, but works well as a portrait of an unyielding presence who can nevertheless do only so much when pitted against natural and manmade forces; Schleinzer has a good feel for balancing the poetic and prosaic.

Hüller is of course excellent, though a few monologues aside this is more an embodied, quiet performance than anything else, oddly reminded me of Franz Rogowski’s presence at points; still working through how much the voiceover is meant to act as counterpoint.

Woke up the morning after the Blazers' season opener and their head coach has not, to my knowledge, been arrested by the FBI so we're already in better shape than last season.

POSSIBLE LOVE: Unfathomably exact and assured in its mining of every implication of social and cinematic connection and separation generated by this four-way dance; Lee’s vision is passionate yet filled with a startling equanimity, ideal for a genuinely inmense cosmos.

Maybe the year’s most harmonious formal device: Lee realizing that his general approach to handheld could throw every single shot into a state of ambiguity; one of the most canny flashback films in ages, and Jeon and Cho are a real match for ALL OF A SUDDEN’s duo.

Members of a now-defunct movie chat group have been voting on new releases for the past 26 years and YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING is now the highest-rated feature-length film (out of 5,035). Doubt it’ll stay there, comparatively few votes as yet, but damn.

We also voted to add a new award, for Costume Design! We'll vote on the year's best achievements in filmmaking on Sunday, December 6th, and will announce the winners live here on Bluesky and Instagram (@lafilmcritics).

Ecstatic that we, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, have chosen Mexican masters Arturo Ripstein and Paz Alicia Garciadiego to receive our Lifetime Achievement Award. They’re the first Latin American artists awarded this honor. I’m so proud to have advocated for them! 🇲🇽🏆

We are thrilled to announce that LAFCA has chosen Arturo Ripstein and Paz Alicia Garciadiego as the co-recipients of this year’s Career Achievement Award. We look forward to honoring them at our awards dinner on January 9th, 2027, alongside this year's best achievements in filmmaking.

LA BOLA NEGRA: Has its moments, but Calvo and Ambrossi struggle to make all but the most archetypal narrative (wartime desire/struggle with identity) work, and the effect is compounded by generally unenlightening cross-cutting; not without interest but clumsy.

It’s possible that I might have liked this more had it just been the earlier chapters (couldn’t get on board with the modern section at all) but even the first section felt unproductively deterministic; Cruz is as welcome and dialed in as Close feels out of place.

NAZA: Hard to think of a documentary this sobering and damning that is also this visually astonishing. A film to watch late at night. Did you dream the whole thing? Were those horrible stories you heard real? You could just go to bed, pretend it didn't happen. But the movie demands you wake up.
