Combining awelcome to all the new members under the Bluesky with the #TuesdayPetPic tax. I’m Tamara, I study & write mostly about Egypt in multiple contexts, but I have many interests. I share the house with Seamus here, who has entirely too much sass - and too many toes - for his own good.

Hi. I, a trans woman, am the Executive Producer of this show. I wrote the question. He called trans girls men. He has now said it in three different places in the past week.

Thankfully I’d only shared it from another quoted post but still. How can you recognize something is bigoted THEN say “and yeah, I’m totally okay with being a bigot” 🫠

Honestly several things are depressing about ai but the two that stand out are the eagerness of people to outsource thought because cognitive effort is uncomfortable, and the casualness with which people use the shiny, easy thing knowing it's bad for climate change

In regard to sending Trump and company for prosecution at the ICC, Trump issuing pardons is actually what makes them eligible for prosecution under international rules regarding the ICC- something this thread from a month ago highlights. bsky.app/profile/nath...

Nathan Newman@nathansnewman.bsky.social

One thing to understand about the ICC- Trump pardoning war criminals is what would make them eligible for prosecution at the ICC. ICC only steps in when local prosecutors are blocked from pursuing prosecutions under national law- which is what a pardon would do www.ictj.org/sites/defaul...

This is literally the end of the rule of law. If a President can pardon people committing crimes on his behalf - and the Supreme Court says he himself can't be prosecuted for crimes committed as part of his job - then the government becomes a lawless entity able to violate our rights without limit.

🪷 Modern Priests of #Antinous commemorate his death on 28 Oct, but many scholars say 22 Oct, 23 Oct, 24 Oct or 30 Oct was when he "plunged into the Nile" (#Hadrian's words) in October of 130 AD. The important thing is that #Antinoos truly lived. He is not a myth or a legend. 🪷

This report is produced by a right wing group and frankly the right-wing is the only folks addressing this, by creating tenure line jobs and funding for their people. The academic center-left has failed to invest similarly and sustainably in humanities research and jobs.

Humanities dissertations have fallen by 49 percent since 2015, compared with a drop of 4.5 percent in the social sciences, according to a new analysis of nearly 445,000 dissertations in these two fields over 65 years. Explore the data: https://chroni.cl/4yxUZ4S

The reason why this woman did not know where she was born is familiar to every adopted person: We are given fake (“amended”) birth certificates that legally certify falsehoods about where and by whom we were born. So many of us have died, and will die, never having seen the originals. 🥚

Because this #adoptee did not know the circumstances of her birth until very recently, the US government has charged her with voting illegally. Intercountry adoptees are living on a knife’s edge in this cursed country of ours. apnews.com/article/syra...

our institutions have stopped hiring, we've been telling students not to pursue advanced study, and to the extent that humanists have mounted a defence, it's been by pleading our utility as an adjunct of STEM disciplines and professional schools in short, it all worked
