Finally got done. Let me know if you're local to downtown Athens and would like me to drop off some maps for you.

Tank is planted. Rotala in the left, jungle valisneria on the right, moneywort in the center and water lettuce and Brazilian Pennywort as floaters. The hardscape is a piece of spiderwood and lace stone set up to resemble a valley with a cave.

Houston... I have a problem. 😹
No, not really... it's only a problem when I can't walk between the tanks. (kidding)
Going to get this set up, let it cycle for a week or so. I'll kickstart it with plants and some water from my other tanks. I want to get it ready to move all of my guppies over.
😸💛
Just finished applying for the Gender Reveal Trans POC Grant in hopes of getting funding to continue my work on my homeless resource maps, thank you @guineaduke.bsky.social for letting me know about it!

"It's in a tank...it counts"
So, not fish, but it DOES involve a tank...our mantis upstairs.
Went out to do some scavenging at night.

Cephalopods are aquatic creatures, but this undescribed Abdopus species bends the rules a bit.
Octopus can survive for a little while out of water, but the species is the only one known to regularly go on dry land, crawling from tide pool to tide pool in search of prey.

A young sea turtle with a beautifully patterned shell gliding through crystal clear water in Florida. The water in this spot was only about 3 feet deep.

Blanket octopuses (genus Tremoctopus) get their name from the webbing that the females have. When threatened, they can unfurl it to make them look big and scary, like a cat arching their back.
The females can get quite big but the males remain tiny, only a few centimetres in length.

Just got the o-fish-ial first copy of my second book, “why sustainable seafood matters!” After years of research, writing, and edits, it’s an amazing feeling to hold it in my hands! You can get your own copy, available for preorder now and coming out in November.

Happy Hagfish Day!
Today we’re celebrating hagfishes - hagfishes are ancient marine animals perhaps best known for their remarkable ability to produce large amounts of slime when threatened. When the slime hits seawater, it expands to form a gel which can clog a predator's mouth and gills.
A different view of my 29 gallon tank. This is the far end, opposite of where I usually sit. It's the ember tetra's territory and the more quiet side of the tank.
Our friend the Mrora Forest Toad lives in the coastal areas of Tanzania, including the the Mafia Island and Zanzibar! Like yesterday's toad, they are a member of genus Mertensophryne, known as "snouted toads" because of their somewhat pointy noses! (photo by dmblokz)
For those of us in the Aquarium hobby, when you go out into nature looking for logs, leaves, mosses, etc. make sure you exercise moderation.
1. Don't over collect
2. Spread your collecting across a large area. Don't collect everything from one spot.
3. Don't hurt living things, take something else.
You can harvest resources ethically and responsibly. Do your best to protect the area around you and consider doing extra work to maintain the area to pay back for the harvesting.
Picking up trash is the easiest way to do that.
You may have heard about white sharks in Monterey Bay in the news…
Welcome to Sharktober! 🦈🎃
White sharks return to the Central California coast around this time each year to feed.🍴

Rainforest Trust buys up rainforest land, establishes private & public trusts and preserves wild areas to help save endangered animals. They also have people who are experienced local managers who help them conserve the land. 💚 I donate to them.

Meet two newly named species of deep-sea siphonophores! 👋😍
New research by MBARI scientists and their collaborators reviews the diversity of deep-sea Bargmannia siphonophores and reveals two previously unknown species.

The Northern Stargazer is both venomous and electric. They also are excellent at burying themselves in the sand with only their eyes and mouth exposed to catch unsuspecting fish! What an amazing number of evolutionary adaptations! #fish#aquarium#ocean#animal#science
Its dusk for the shromp tank. (I have a light that dims on and off on a timer to simulate dusk and dawn) the shrumps are really active at this time. Blue (the mystery snail) is a superstar of course. #🦐
Part of setting up this account was to get my name out there to pivot into full-time aquarium work. Thanks to the assistance of @pavlovforgoths.com, I have just set up my first maintenance contract for a local business's office aquarium.
It's taking effort, but I truly enjoy this work and I'm glad
to have the opportunity to utilize the knowledge and experience I'm gaining within the aquarium hobby to both support myself financially with it, as well as support good animal husbandry and help to bring awareness to good practices in fish keeping with both home and business owners.
So thank you to those that follow this account and interact with your comments, likes, & reposts. I will continue to work on this account, build relationships with other fans of our aquatic acquaintances, and hopefully one day I will have a shop open you all can visit.
Friendly Octopuses (Octopus laqueus) are able to get along with each other better than other octopus species.
They aren't as gregarious the larger Pacific striped octopus, but they are able tolerate living in close proximity to other octopuses, although they prefer to live on their own.

Flip, my pleco, doesn't like the frogs. He'll chase them out of the area if the frogs get to close. I think it's cus the frogs have no sense of personal space. I tried to get it on video but as soon as I start recording they stopped. You can see Waldo using Flip as a foot rest in this vide though.
Embedded in the suckers, octopuses have cells that enable the arms to do the double duty of touching and tasting by detecting chemicals produced by many aquatic creatures [📹 Zola Lallo / hawaiiaquaman]

Even the folks at my LFS weren't 100% that this was a male female pair. The individual I follow at the end is who they suspected may have been the female. I'll post video of the for sure male below
The seas are angry out there and the water is murky, but this huffle of migrating checkered pufferfish brightened our day today 😃🏁🐡🐡🐡🐡🐡🐡🐡🐡🐡🏁 #checkeredpuffer#pufferfish#pufferfishofcoralcity#huffle#coralcitycamera
The Long Island Aquarium opened in 2000 and contains 1 million gallons of water in total within its enclosures! It’s a great place to take kids to learn about ocean wildlife. #fish#aquarium#ocean#science#animal
10 gallon betafish tank with some really great shots of Murf the miracle mystery snail. (I'm gunna add a random honorific for him every time probs). Special appearances by some neocaridina shrumps, a nerite snail cleaning the hammock and ricky the beta, of course.
I'm not sure who was more curious, me or the peacock mantis shrimp. 😄

The weekend has arrived, so here is a 🦀-post to celebrate. This is a White-spotted Hermit Crab (Dardanus megistos) that I met in Lembeh.
