I want to weigh in on this, as someone who makes streamer software for VRChat. This is gonna be a bit of a thread.

You're violating trust, and you're potentially fucking with peoples livelihoods. You don't fucking do that. There's ways to pull "jokes" like this properly, this sure as hell ain't it. It's unethical and you're fucking it up for the rest of us who actually understand consent for these things.

Also worth quickly adding: You don't do this to randoms, either! You do this with friends who know you. Agreeing to a ToS is not valid consent. You should never hide capabilities, and you need to read the room even with friends before ever pulling shit. Respect your users.

What screminpal has done is they've pulled a "prank" that violates the expectations of what the tool does, something which should be treated with care. There's cases where stuff like this can be fun - see the clustertruck "dev takeover" streams - but they're screwing with core functionality.

The fact that they buried consent in a large readme, and have points in the readme that hint at the idea that this CANNOT happen, is super misleading. There is no opt-in, nor any process that implies that shenanigans ever could happen.

In general, the biggest problem I have with this isn't the claims of AI code, or the idea of funny backdoor shit. My issue is that doing it this way violates trust and consent, and makes it harder to make fun tools in future.

When developing tools with funny toys like this, the way you are meant to go about it is the same way you handle BDSM. You get consent, you discuss boundaries, and any shenanigans are left as details only, and always bounded within what was consented to.

Man, it's still wild to me that the N64's RAM uses 9 bits ber byte instead of 8. Even if ya can't use that 9th bit directly.

So, that new year's resolution I had. It's going... Somewhat. I've improved, but a long way to go still. It ain't the end of the year, but it's worth remembering your goals.

Nothing you create blindly with AI has any value to me. It's not about the end result. I want to know that someone cared about what they made. The cheap copy you made in an to attempt to prove AI can "replace you" just shows you don't care to understand. The value was never in the product alone.

When the gabecube releases I might end up getting one and a TV. Wasn't initially planning to but I see the appeal more and more. Maybe, anyway.

Oops I'm late to posting this. I hope you all enjoyed our work on Venture into the Unknown! We worked hard on it, it took a full year, but god damn if it wasn't worth it with what came out of it.

I finally got to finish a story about my uncle. Fun story. Also the first game I've managed to finish in years.

Hey, if you see me online in vrc, I'd love you to invite me places. I don't tend to join peeps who are on orange because I don't want to intrude, but I often still want company. I'm on a lot, often in my home world so peeps can drop by and say hi. You should come say hi sometime.

In other words, I'm an introvert who wants to be adopted, come kidnap me and take me places! I like to see cool shit and hang with peeps. I'm often working, so I'm not hopping a lot on my own, but I would love to join you.

New year's resolution, dev stuff aside: be less lonely. Be more willing to let people in, and try to be okay with having friends care about me. To stop deflecting as much and try to be vulnerable again, and let people actually care about me when they actually try to.

Either I'm losing my mind or there's been people I followed that I'm not following and people that were following me that aren't. Could be either, but ay. I'm trying to curate a feed here bsky, what are you doing :V

Too many projects. Slowly getting through em but man, I wish I was busy with smaller interesting things instead of slow moving big things right now. Big things are always coming. I just wish they were a little less big sometimes lmao

Oop, I forgot to update here - gumroad unsuspended it, it's now back up for sale where it was.

TapGhoul@tapghoul.dev

It seems Gumroad has suspended sale of the Collar & Leash system. I will be investigating, and if I cannot get it restored, I will announce where it will be sold instead and will send out codes to those who have already bought it to grab it again.

Been using Kagi now for a while. Pretty much the same as strasz here - it's made search usable. Even without blocking domains and such, it's incredible how good a search engine can be when your eyeballs aren't the product.

i love kagi -- totally made search usable again. the ability to block domains owns, too. just great stuff.

Red_sim's light volume + Ikeiwa's baked volumetric shader + Bakery spotlights, with "physical falloff" turned on (a checkbox on the bakery light component), and a custom cookie texture for a more uneven lighting effect. #VRChat

Light Volumes v.2.0.0 released! Now it has Light Volume based super optimized analytical Point Lights, Spot Lights and Area Lights. (Up to 128 at the same time) Ability to project images and cubemaps. Also baked shadow masks and even more features! github.com/REDSIM/VRCLi...

They brought the McGriddle here to aus. I tried it... This is what you guys were raving about? This is far too sweet, what the fuck - why would you not just use an english muffin, this is terrible lmao

I see discussions occasionally about having GUIs replacing command lines. And while I'm all for it, there's a point that I never see discussed. Part of why command lines work so much better than GUIs for some tasks is that GUIs require organization and hierarchy to work.

CLIs meanwhile, all commands are just a big list. But to expose a CLI as a GUI naively wouldn't work because one big list is a terrible way to organize a GUI, and I don't think you *can* expose all possible CLI workflows with a nice unified GUI.

No rhythm games at the rhythm gamers meetup? I don't think so >:3 Made a little surprise for #Furality this year. It's a fully playable ITG chart within my VRChat avatar! Best of all? Others could also try to play the game too! ... We heard this song so much @_@; I am sorry to people around me!

Man it's wild how often I find that problems get so much simpler when you start to think of them as distributed systems problems. Dealing with orchestration etc instead of a clean hierarchy of call stacks makes so many things so much easier when you have more than one source of events.
