A cycle highway (doorfietsroute in Dutch) is a high-quality bike route designed for comfort and speed. It's meant to connect towns and cities efficiently, without gaps or stops along the path, this makes it easier to cover short and long distances without a car.

Bike-lanes don’t cause traffic congestion. Car dependency, land-use sprawl, too many cars driving too much taking up too much space, highly subsidized driving costs, and not enough choices in how to get around, ALL cause traffic congestion. Think about it. THAT’S common sense.

Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users. ALL ROAD USERS. What about painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them. Via @usa.streetsblog.org @nyc.streetsblog.org

Trump blames Canada for wildfire smoke while dismantling environmental protections.

Trump is acting like he cares about the wildfire smoke coming into the U.S. from Canada. Here are just a few reasons why he doesn’t. This is all just another excuse to justify tariffs on Canada because he’s petty.

Climate change denialism in Canada is not just "Climate change is a hoax". It's also: "Before we deal with climate change, we need to... ... defend against Trump. ... appease Alberta separatists. ... make enough money to switch to renewables. ... not crash our fossil fuel-based economy."

Cities don’t thrive when space is owned by cars, they thrive when it’s shared by people. From superblocks to school streets, this is what's possible when cities place care, empathy, and inclusion at their core—and why leadership matters more than ever. Our piece in @theguardian.com: bit.ly/4sYZlzy

This is why housing advocacy is driven largely by people who just want to be able to ride their bikes & get places on the bus. Once you start looking for ways to make transportation better, you realize that it's land use holding us back. And then you start spending all your free time at city hall.

Urban Truth Collective@urbantruth.bsky.social

Here’s one that’s really important to understand and remember, especially if you work in a city hall — the best transportation plan is a great land-use plan. #UrbanTruth

I was the only one I saw wearing a mask last night at a crowded retirement party. The party could've been outside on a covered patio. It was a lovely evening, but organizers chose to put it in a small room--people were so packed they could barely move. A prof asked me why I was wearing a mask.

To carry 50,000 people per hour in each direction, a city needs a 175m wide road for cars. Even if those cars are electric. And then there’s all the parking. OR a city can move A LOT MORE people in a lot less space, with A LOT LESS public money, emissions, pollution, noise etc. Choices. Simple.

This is a fight for workers’ rights in Canada. Canada Post is part of what makes us Canadian. The union’s proposals (not completely detailed here) set out a path for a stronger postal service & good union jobs.

Paris Marx@parismarx.com

Canada Post wants to create a new class of flexible, part-time worker that will better compete with Amazon and implement “dynamic routing” so delivery routes can be changed on the fly. It’s a good example of how Amazon degrades workers’ rights even beyond its walls. Workers are right to push back.
