You know what? This is on me for assuming Cary PD would let the public know that someone armed was running from the cops. That's my fault for presuming competence. The NC state senate candidate in question called WRAL to give an interview while CPD was in pursuit. www.wral.com/news/local/s...

There is absolutely nothing about this on the local news. I just don't see someone holding off cops for multiple hours in the middle of a Monday without it being splashed across multiple websites. It may be happening but under present circumstances? It sounds more like a mental break.

For most of history it would not be accurate to depict anyone other than the very rich as eating roast chicken. Chickens were primarily for eggs and would not be suitable for roasting when they stopped laying. Roasting chickens would have been raised special and would cost a goddamn fortune.

Kendrick Lamar is one of the most talented composers of our time and I do mean that literally.

There’s this thing people do where they’re surprised that a rapper has read a book or knows any music theory or something else “intelligent”. Anyway, I hate it. Thank you.

Every man who thinks that women only want "alpha males" and "chads" has never reckoned with the fact that I would marry Roy Underhill (star of PBS' "The Woodwright's Shop") right this moment if asked.

American society has a lot of room to improve and most of the criticism directed at us is more than justified. But we routinely engage in the sort of gastronomic war crimes that got French royalty beheaded and they are available to all visitors of our State Fairs.

On Weds, Sept 16 2026, 1067 days after being trapped with her 6 kittens... Fancy officially became a Lap Kitty. Did not just briefly visit - she stayed, cuddled, & fell asleep. She did it yesterday and today as well. She went from a skinny stray that wouldn't let me within 5 yards of her to THIS!

Tenacious Grace@tenaciousgrace.bsky.social

As a result of being a stray, Fancy had a heartworm infection. This is more dangerous in cats than in dogs because there is no treatment for cats. It can kill them suddenly and they don't always get rid of it on their own. But guess who tested negative for heartworms at her most recent vet visit?

I have never once been badgered by my parents to give them grandchildren or made to feel like less of a woman for choosing to remain permanently childfree. I have never been ashamed for choosing to focus on my own success. That would have been damn near unheard of even 30 years ago.

I feel like we’re really overdue for a thread of things that have changed for women in your lifetime. I’m interested in good and bad things. Any little life moment that would feel unbelievable if it happened in 2026.

Parents of a baby who is not yet a year old, I have a PSA for you. Some of you may think that putting your baby in a pumpkin costume for Halloween is trite and overdone, that no one wants to see this. Friends, nothing could be further from the truth. A pumpkin is the S-Tier costume for babies.

I have had the privilege of seeing some excellent baby costumes in my time but none have come close to matching the joy I get from seeing a baby dressed as a pumpkin. Please consider the humble pumpkin costume as the Halloween sartorial choice for your baby this year.

If the last few days have given me nothing else, they have really solidified how I want to be remembered when I die: with tremendous initial grief followed by an outpouring of stories about what a fucking baddie I was.

I was talking to someone about cat allergies and it reminded me of one of my favorite memories of my mother from childhood. I told Mom that I thought I might be allergic to our cats and she replied, "Well what the heck do you want me to do about it?" Not having a cat is not an option for my mom.

I am not allergic to cats and if I was truly having a bad reaction, I am certain it would have been addressed. It's just one of those perfect illustrations of my mother's love of cats AND how to respond to the exaggerated drama of an elementary school child.

I don't have kids and I am never going to have kids but seeing all my friends' kids going back to school makes me feel weepy in a good way. Look at all my little pals growing and learning! I remember when you were a baby and now you are giant!

Globally, greenhouse emissions for HEATING are something like 4x that of COOLING. Yet we never seem to hear any request for people to just tough it out when it comes to cold temperatures.

Does no one else find this an unforgivably stupid question? Emissions reductions won't make a heat wave NOW survivable. Likewise, more homes can have AC, heat pumps while overall cutting greenhouse emissions. This isn't an "either/or", both are needed. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

This is the ideal bok body. You may not like it, but this is what peak bogrification looks like.

If you've never seen a bog body, it's a genuinely unsettling experience. This is Tollund Man, who died around 400 BC.

whether it ends up being any good or not, warner has staked far too much for this to be anything other than ubiquitous for the next few years. and really, the quality of the show is irrelevant to its primary mechanical function: giving its creator more leverage to wage a campaign of trans genocide

the harry potter show is likely to be a massive global hit and lead to a cultural revival of the work and its profitability. one should prepare for this

A load bearing mythos of pop leftism is that the Dems used to be good and for the working man and then embraced neoliberalism so the working man got sold out, instead of "white America as a whole turned on the Dems after the Civil Rights Act and began tearing down their own commons and prosperity"

My favorite part of Priscilla's lore is that she walked up to one of the colony's caretakers at approximately 4 months old and practically begged to go with them. Her parents might have shunned humans but Priss yearned for domestication.

Being a public school teacher is hard enough without having a failed real estate agent turned conservative blowhard making it worse. No moral courage whatsoever, just always seeking grist to grind for her cancerous content. Fuck's sake.

here's a fun lil exercise for cis people: how many articles would a publication have to print calling for your extermination before you would expect people who care about you to stop giving them money? and how would you feel if their excuse for still supporting them is some fuckass crossword puzzle?

An acquaintance of mine fell down the stairs of his home in May 2020, cracked his skull open on the floor tiles, and ended up dying because EMTs were stretched so thin that he didn't receive help in a timely fashion. I relive some of the smothering horror of those days whenever I remember him.

Running out of body bags, using forklifts to transfer corpses into makeshift morgues, a mortician conducting 200 funerals in a month when he usually does 30, crematories running at double capacity… And these senators just want to memory-hole it all www.nytimes.com/2020/04/30/n...
