How is it acceptable to ship 2900 cows, half of those pregnant, from Uruguay to Turkey to be slaughtered?! I'm at loss for words at humans' lack of empathy for "the other", be it human or non-human. #animalrights #antispeciesism #animalliberation news.sky.com/story/strand...

Since I quit most social media, I've been wanting to create a website from scratch, but I never got to finish it. I recently stumbled upon the #smallweb or #indieweb movement, and it felt like finding my people! The web feels exciting again!

“While Mayor, I was often asked ‘how have you been able to afford bike-lanes in #Copenhagen?’ I’d reply, ‘how have you been able to NOT afford it? 25 years ago we were a few days away from going bankrupt. So the city invested in the cheapest infrastructure… bicycling.’” — @mortenkabell.bsky.social

Can we change our trajectory and live within #planetaryboundaries? Yes, but we have to act as soon as possible to implement the Paris climate agreement, shift to a healthier diet (EAT-Lancet), improve food and resources efficiency, consume less. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Always worth watching the NASA spiral. Beautiful and terrifying.

It was another stunning year for global climate and weather extremes. As data is processed and released in the first two weeks of January, you are going to be hearing all about these new historical records. Apologies for my many graphs in advance! 😬 Spiral below produced by svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/5190

Fireworks are yet another expression of humans' inability to consider the needs of the vulnerable (be it human or non-human). Why not replace them with kinder alternatives (light shows, for example) instead of keeping idiot and damaging habits alive? #NoFireworks

On the left, my image. On the right, the Al image that was clearly trained on, and designed to plagiarize, my image. All Al generated imagery is inherently theft. It's unethical, environmentally disastrous, and does irreparable harm to both artists and society.

Living with cats is a delight until you have to shove a pill into their throat. Then, it becomes carnage (for my poor hands). Luckily, the vet suggested the burrito technique.

A bear has been killed in Italy. Again. I wrote some reflections about human-bear conflicts and populist parties weaponising people's fear of wild animals to gain votes. I also found a handy guide to bear encounters. teraga.me/2024/12/02/e...
