“The birth rate would have dropped even more had fewer women given birth” What are we doing here, writers?

The U.S. birth rate fell to its lowest level ever recorded, according to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The drop would have been greater, but women over age 30 are having more children. n.pr/3WzQKsl

Dozens of democratic candidates and officeholders are condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza and pledging to end all US military aid to Israel. But unless they use the word genocide, they are feckless cowards who do not deserve my vote.

Since returning to office, Donald Trump has made over $2 billion from bribes and crypto schemes while driving up costs for everyone else in the country. His political opponents say this is a bad thing.

Who?

Evan Barker quit the Democratic Party and voted for Trump. Now she’s telling (a few) stories about what she saw in a new book that mixes gossip and condemnations of ‘woke.’ Her old colleagues aren’t happy.

Genuinely, when you send someone to the United States Senate as submoronic, gibbering and ridiculous as Tommy Tuberville, your statehood should be suspended. At this point there should be 49 United States and the Alabama Territory. Followed by a second, more committed attempt at Reconstruction.

Mr. Hegseth's critics point to an ongoing military defeat in Iran, hiding the number of dead soldiers, running out of missiles, and an alarming pattern of racism and misogyny. Mr. Hegseth's defenders point to successes like not getting blackout drunk in public and not raping any of his colleagues.

This is the part many Americans -- including the Bezosites at the Washington Post -- don't understand. Canadians don't see this just as a Trump thing. It's that America elected him twice, and the second time with an even bigger mandate. The problem we're addressing is America, not Trump.

I guess “even bigger mandate” is technically true because he lost the popular vote the first time And the second time Third time was the charm but he still did not get a majority

I don’t doubt for a second that AI could have deleterious effects The idea that it’s going to do something close to “destroy[ing] humanity” is insane Stop doing drugs, people

Josh Marshall@joshtpm.bsky.social

Many weirdnesses involved in this. But was talking to one guy who explained that to a great degree both OpenAI and Anthropic were started by folks whose argument was: AI will likely destroy humanity. So we need to create it so we can prevent that from happening. Paradoxical argument.

Fair. At this point I can't remember if I was half-dressed, coffee going cold in front of me, while I stared at a TV screen in front of me in horror, or if I was in downtown Manhattan trying to help people but instead being pulled from rubble by two brave, burly NY firefighters. One of the two.

I'm not going to name names, but part of the reason the industry tolerates them doing such disgraceful and unethical things is because of the in real life 'they're really nice in person, really!' defence Of course they are! If they acted like that in real life they'd be ostracised & unemployable!
