I hate that people are making me defend Trump but too many people are joking about this one. Rare case Trump's story has some truth www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

nbcnews.comEx-Trump administration official shot in Washington, D.C., carjacking spree diesMike Gill was shot Monday during a violent carjacking spree that also killed another man.

Trump on DC: "One of my top people got killed waiting for his wife to come out of an office building, bring her home. And this guy comes up and wants the car and shoots him right through the head. Dead."

A company with culture that bad would deserve to be burned to the ground. An industry with culture this bad should be nuked from orbit.

If you get why it’s bad when people feel *pressured* to attend sex parties and engage in other sexual behavior to advance professionally, then you understand the core problem with the rationalist AI Silicon Valley culture.

Sitting at a bar and the old couple next to me were arguing about how a kitchen reno could impact your insurance cost. Lady then says "let's ask chat" and she did not mean twitch chat, she pulled up the chatgpt app. Chat, we're cooked.

When people say they’re anti-AI, they’re clearly talking about generative AI in the arts and LLM slop that C-Suite jackoffs want to use to replace them. You know this. I know this. Everyone knows this. So the “then don’t use spellcheck if you hate AI” talking point is disingenuous horseshit.

The apartment I live in decided to "upgrade" from a key fob access system for common spaces to an app. Those common spaces include the garage. So now people driving up to and away from the garage are all fumbling with their phones. Who would think this is a good idea?

Watching the highlights of the Phillies-Nats game and am really confused by the advertising behind home plate. Had to make sure I wasn't accidently watching highlights for 5 years ago. Guess Terra must have paid up front. #LUNAtic

I mean, that's been edited cause that's the shower (toilet is actually behind the white door). That said - I don't know if that being a shower is that much better?

This post is unavailable.

I feel like seeing a commercial on ESPN for what is essentially a payday lender (EarnIn) has to be some kind of recession indicator.

Dear Microsoft: Fuck all the way off with this. This is visually disruptive and literally appears above data in those cells. You're making this shit even less useful. The ribbon exists for a reason, put this bullshit there, not in the field of play.

Huh, I wonder if anything else significant happened at that same time. Something that had a global impact and we're still feeling the impact of (and exacerbated by more recent events). I wonder...

Interesting long read from @jburnmurdoch.ft.com making the case that declining birth rates are particularly tied up with the rise of smartphones and therefore fewer people in relationships, which in turn leads to fewer kids www.ft.com/content/fba3...

And the part about "A year later they like me because they ended up having a much better job" is also not true. www.nbcnews.com/politics/dog...

a very confused Trump: "I could with one swipe of the pen say, 'Let's have no employment,' and I'll hire a million people or two million people and we'll have absolutely no employment."

If only there had been a way for the public to own a piece of Spirit Airlines. Maybe with some sort of government agency overseeing the arrangement and encouraging transparency. And independent auditors checking the books regularly (and a government agency overseeing those auditors). If only.

Really confused by the host's response about paychecks. Is he confusing FICO and FICA?

FHFA Director Bill Pulte: "Especially over the last four years over Joe Biden, nobody could afford a home. So President Trump has come in and crushed affordability, he's crushed all types of inflation."

Feels longer than 3 years cause same brand of tech bro was telling me the blockchain would put me out of a job while making them ungodly wealthy since at least 2020.

Faine Greenwood@faineg.com

like maybe the public would be getting less frothy and toothy about this if big tech hadn’t spent the last three years constantly threatening the public with impoverishment and feudal control, idk

"I am now beginning to believe his condition may be genetic."

As they angle for a presidential pardon in television interviews, Sam Bankman-Fried’s law professor parents file “pro se” motions for their adult son, leave voicemails with the judge, and sign documents claiming they're from him in prison.

I'm confused by the reactions to this video. Sandlin (the Smarter Every Day guy) rightly points out that tariffs hurt businesses. But everyone is focused on the apparent absurdity of a chainmail making machine? Has no one ever look for cast iron scrubbers before?

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

LOEFFLER: If you want to strike down a regulation that's stopping our reindustrialization, we're here to listen SANDLIN: I'm happy to hear that bc we tried to import a chain mail machine & there was a tariff on it. So we wanted to make jobs, but couldn't LOEFFLER: I want to talk to you about this

Sometimes you wonder. Bloomberg this morning saying that you can't both believe that AI is a big deal and that we're in a bubble. But you absolutely can! That's exactly the story of the tech bubble of the 90s, major economic impact but not big profits. Sigh.

Unfun reminder that the reason they always run out is because people take them as souvenirs. Cause what olympic athlete isn't going to grab a handful of olympic-branded condoms to take home if presented the chance?

It's the little details that really shine through. Every prop person in existence could have make a convincing prop of Common Sense but we're left with this garbage. Whole trailer is a mix of uncanny valley and shots that don't stay on one thing for more than a few seconds. Just AI slop.
