Maybe you should suggust that to your current Prime Minister. #cdnpoli

From Lula’s victory speech. Hard to argue. 🇧🇷 “We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. We cannot have monstrously large corporations earning millions and billions, paying no taxes to this country and trying to steer our election results.”

Spot on! White women, have done more harm than good to the cause of non-white women globally. And continue to do so. The scourge of white feminism has misunderstood women elsewhere so badly that it has changed them forever. And yes, i am confident in generalizing this. #feminism #whitewomen

Himal Southasian@himalsouthasian.bsky.social

Since Gloria Steinem passed away earlier this month, "the US feminist’s global legacy has been lauded and extolled, as well as critiqued seemingly threadbare," Meena Saraswathi Seshu and Laxmi Murthy write: https://www.himalmag.com/gloria-steinem-sex-work-feminism-india-south-asia/

WTF? Is Doug Ford see nothing but commercial kickbacks for himself? This is an insane idea! It will permanently damage the falls as a natural wonder! #cdnpoli

#Climate is perhaps globally irreversible as we have seen in #Nepal recently. With so much evidence of destruction in the real world, it is unbelievable how this is an issue that #Canada is just not taking seriously. What is the point of “nation building” if in just a few years we may not have one?

The irony is that Canada still very much wants to work with/join the EU who is bending the knee to Trump, while we aren't. Its an awkward place for Carney to be and to play both sides and hope we come out winning at all ends. 🇨🇦🇪🇺

It’s a blight on our world that of the three things this letter instructs its readers to do, we only believe one of them -dreaming big. We refuse to learn everything we can and we do not care for those who care for us. And we still think we can be anyone we want to be. RIP Dolly.

Joel@itsjoels.bsky.social

This is the letter kids got at the end of Dolly’s Imagination Library. I defy you to read this and not cry.

The resignation and controversy around the late Jason Arday did not rally the troops online nearly as much as his tragic death did. Maybe if the outpouring of grief and support we see now would have happened earlier, it may have prevented this tragedy. That was when he really needed your support.

Humanitarianism communication fails to identify the source of human suffering and focuses instead on the white benevolent humanitarian saviour. My review of @djefferess.bsky.social new book; The Humanitarian Fable. Saviorism, Race and Aid (Routledge, 2026). www.thenewhumanitarian.org/opinion/2026...

If there was an opportunity for Avi Lewis and the New Democratic Party of Canada to push their agenda on #environment forward, they must invite Steven Guilbeault to collaborate with them now that he is resigning from the Liberal caucus. This would be a great partnership! www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

Thank you to @themrise.bsky.social for reviewing the SAGE Handbook of Decolonial Theory for LSE Review of Books. It is the first review of our handbook. NEW: Decolonial theory needs to be grounded in reality. So argues the @sagepub.com Handbook of Decolonial Theory ed. @insurgentthought.bsky.social @sandeepbak.bsky.social et al. It centres the Global South & makes a radical contribution to decolonial thought & praxis, writes @themrise.bsky.social

I did it! I joined the @ndp.ca !! Many years too late but I finally did it. I chose #Canada as my home for a reason and I've always been an underdog. Good or bad the NDP has resonated with my reasons the most. So @avilewis.ca you have a brand new member who given the chance, wants to work with you!

Probably also because many of these floor crossers understand that “liberal values” are growing closer to conservative values under this government.

Rachel Gilmore@rachelgilmore.bsky.social

Carney is being asked whether *any* politician is welcome in the Liberal caucus and he’s basically saying yes. There’s no line in the sand — as long as they tell *him* they support Liberal values, they’re welcome to the Liberal Party to grow his majority power. Yikes.

The immediate status quo, centrist attacks on Avi Lewis are precisely why he is effective and needed. In face of growing right wing escalation, an unbashadely left opposition that is anti capitalist & internationalist is both principled *and* realistic.

There was a massive #Palestine flag being waved by the crowd behind #AviLewis on the stage as he won the #NDP leadership! It’s also the first and only political party forum in #Canada that has publiclly and on national television used the word genocide and called out Israel in #Gaza.

This reminds me of Covid when China was the only country providing Pakistan with vaccines as the West hoarded for their own. AND then refused to accept entry to anyone who had received those vaccines. #EndWarNow

They want to completely erase these countries. Not just as they stand today, but centuries of their histories. As if they were never meant to exist.

@rachelgilmore.bsky.social you didnt misunderstand. Carney's "Davos in action" is a selfish approach which says we will align ourself with bullies if it is in our self-interest. Even if it means supporting illegal wars. Thats not something we should support or be proud of as Canadians.

Rachel Gilmore@rachelgilmore.bsky.social

Lots of academics I really respect are highlighting this misunderstanding, which I’ve apparently also fallen prey to. But there’s an important point here: What did Carney think laymen would take away from his speech when he spoke of taking a sign out of a window in the face of a bullying regime?

PM Carney has fed the Western world his “Davos Delusion” knowing it would be lapped up by them. This is the first of his “actions” under it. Let no one think we have a saviour in him.

Mark Kersten@markkersten.bsky.social

Canada rightly condemns the Iran regime but then says it supports the US-led war in Iran, despite it violating international law, a topic on which PM Carney is silent. Is abandoning international law what Carney meant by principled realism in his Davos speech?

Themrise Khan reposted

“Canada supports the United States acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to prevent its regime from further threatening international peace and security.” Well. For those of us wondering if he’d walk the walk of the Davos speech, this is a pretty big answer. Nope.

Today is the third anniversary of the publication of our book. At a time when imperial powers are grappling with their limits the concepts of this book cant be limited to #internationaldevelopment. An elderly lady just approached me at the @octranspo.com stop with some unsolicited advice: “You’ll get where you’re trying to go faster walking than waiting for a bus. Yesterday, I walked to McDonald’s and back in the same time it took the bus to show up”

Not to undermine these horrific killings, but if either of these innocent victims had been black, would it have mattered as much? If so, law enforcement under US Presidents would have seen a massive shift after the killing of George Floyd.

Two former presidents felt compelled to comment publicly

A privildged and powerful white man in a suit stands up to another privildged and powerful white man in a suit in a room full of privildged and powerful white men in suits. And the world applauds (including women). #Davos

Most of the world by now doesn’t believe in democracy and a rules based order.

Emmett Macfarlane 🇨🇦@emmettmacfarlane.com

Carney isn't just failing Canada, he's failing the world. If we don't stand for democracy and a rules-based international order, why would any other country come to Canada's defence when we need it?

They were right. It’s not about regime change. It’s about the oil.

Senator Andy Kim@kim.senate.gov

Secretaries Rubio and Hegseth looked every Senator in the eye a few weeks ago and said this wasn’t about regime change. I didn’t trust them then and we see now that they blatantly lied to Congress.

"Amazon Web Service's outage caused people's "smart beds" to overheat and get stuck in an upright position." That is a sentence that belongs in a really badly written B-grade public-access TV type of sci-fi show. The fact it is true is why I am happy none of my appliances (or beds) are smart.

White Billionaire donors just being replaced by White Billionaire philanthropists. Everyone wants to “low income countries to “prosper” but for their own gains. Our countries are not your testing grounds. #philanthropy

Devex@devex.com

As old growth models falter, the Gates Foundation and, more recently, Open Philanthropy are testing new ways to help low- and middle-income countries prosper. They’re able to take risks, test ideas, and inform policy reforms that multilateral banks and bilateral donors often can’t.
