French and Spanish teacher. I like to play football in the park with my brother. Last weekend I went shopping. Next weekend if it is sunny I would like to swim. https://whoteacheslanguages.blogspot.com/

Fantastic bit of work. Great response to *that* paper about women scientists mostly being omitted from exam specs. (Also solving my 'can you provide a house quiz from the science team?' headache)

Regular reminder that when you go to things while sick, you are giving those germs to people with autoimmune disorders, you’re passing them to someone’s newborn, to someone’s elderly parents. It’s “just a cold” to you but it can and does severely impact countless people.

I am b e g g i n g people to mask up at major cons, *especially* ones with 5-digit crowd sizes!! Lightbox this weekend was absolutely ravaged; I’m hearing of SO many attendees and exhibitors who got sick from doing the show this year!! Please stay safe out there! 🙏 🙏

Heritage is campaigning for the dismantlement of Title IX, calling its guarantee of equal rights a "failed experiment." The author of its recent report says “we live under a regime of compulsory feminism." He says women who pursue careers are "medicated, meddlesome and quarrelsome."

If, as expected, Democrats sweep this election, the already growing movement in MAGA to repeal the 19th amendment will get louder. It's tempting to dismiss this as just talk. But while they can't just end women's suffrage, this movement is dangerous. www.salon.com/2026/10/26/m...

According to AI the best thing is to send it to their Freepost Plus address but without a Freepost Plus barcode so they then have to pay the full normal Freepost amount and also a penalty for not having the barcode. share.google/aimode/ytwUv...

Last night I went to the 3rd Climate Crisis Lecture at St John's College, Cambridge. The speaker was Sir David King, former government Chief Scientific Adviser. The Master of St John's promised that the talk would be 'full of hope' but King cast doubt on that idea at the outset.

19th Century predictions of effect of CO2. When do the oil companies that hid what they knew start to pay for fixing the damage?

Jason Scott-Warren@jes1003.bsky.social

Main focus was on how good the 19thC predictions of effects of CO2 had been on the melting of Greenland (30m tonnes of ice per hour) on sea level rise with threats to coastal cities and global rice production on the need to curb methane emissions, which can now be mapped in detail by satellite.

Britain is broke (no there isn't an n behind his head). I thought they went around claiming Britain is broken. Britain is broke is different. Is that why they are always going begging to billionaires?

This wonderful animation by @milos_gis shows a full year of the Iberian peninsula as seen from space. Spain and Portugal change their colours less intensely than areas in central Europe where the seasons are more distinct.

We can use features of "it's a test" to make pupils feel as if they are being judged. But this is a double edged sword. It makes some pupils redouble their efforts. It makes others feel like failures. It emphasises memorising the "right" answer over thinking and learning.

There's no such thing as a summative assessment. Any claim that learning is done and dusted is a distortion of learning. And any assessment that isn't formative is pointless.

BBC News just interrupted its coverage to go, live, to Nigel Farage - a man with no contitutional standing in our setup - responding to the budget - a document which nobody has seen yet. WHY

All of a sudden Trump is throwing references to men and their buttocks into his rally speeches. People are easily fooled...

MeidasTouch@meidastouch.com

🚨 A bombshell new House Judiciary Democrats report details allegations from 11 women linking Trump to Jeffrey Epstein, including five who accuse Trump of sexual assault. The report also alleges a sweeping DOJ cover-up. We broke down the explosive findings.

It feels as if the BBC already went. But I don't think we are ready for what happens when it does go.

Josiah Mortimer@josiahmortimer.bsky.social

The cuts being made at the BBC are unforgivable. They are putting it into a death spiral. The weaker it gets, the less people will want to support it. And yes, this is an issue for the Government, which likes to pretend it's not their problem. It is.

SoL folks are primarily cognitivists, with a dash of constructivism. They see the brain is a symbol-crunching machine best developed by repeated exposure to training. They agree that it is helpful if learners care about what they are learning, but mostly for motivation, a means to enable repetition.

this why I believe abstinence is the only real way, but I know it's hard we have been here before with smoking, where the best thing is never to start & the second best is to stop as soon as you can — and it doesn't matter if one cig a day is "not that bad" if you can go down to one go down to nil

that's what's so worrying! even so-called critical use still elicits the same feelings that draw you back to any use

This is not true. The hottest place in the solar system is on earth. In the European fusion reactor. Formerly in Oxfordshire until Brexit.
