Happy March equinox! ☀️ At NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory in Chile, this day marks the beginning of autumn. From here on out, daylight hours in the southern hemisphere will shrink until the June solstice, meaning longer nights and more time to #CaptureTheCosmos 🔭🧪

BIG new batch of images sent back by Perseverance! Took some work, and my laptop struggled, but what a wonderful view... Look at those beautiful dust dunes, sculpted by Mars' icy winds... As they say, "Welcome to my world..." ;-) Image Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/ASU/S Atkinson

While some Federal government agencies push loud political partisanship in your face on their home page, NASA has class and simply states the facts minus the politics in small type at nasa.gov -- Good on you #NASA. #Shutdown #NASASTRONG

More anti-intellectualist bullshit from the administration wanting to deny climate change. This is straight out of the Soviet playbook.

Hey! All the planets are still visible tonight, and will be for one or two more (Saturn is getting lower and more difficult but Mercury is still getting higher, closer to Venus every night) so go out and look after sunset!

Phil PlAIt@philplait.bsky.social

If you go out tonight after sunset (in a few minutes for the East coast) five naked-eye planets are visible (not counting the one you're on). Saturn is lowest, about 5° above the horizon above and to the left of where the Sun set. It's faint and VERY hard to see. You'll binocs. 1/n
