Distressing embrace of AI by teachers (my friends! my colleagues!) has me embracing pencil & paper. Made this illustration for tomorrow’s Tariff of Abominations lesson.

This. 100% this. So much renewable or EV FUD is framed as 'well Solar doesn't pair well with xxx power source, or EV doesn't do *insert edge case here*' Irrelevant, our species is rapidly shifting to renewable + BESS and EV, that's it, get on board, and adapt.

"Politics is not just about power and money games, politics can be about the improvement of peoples lives, about lessening human suffering in our world and bringing about more peace and more justice." U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone, who died on this day in 2002

I guess that the overall plot was that the government was lying about something. Pokémon cards had spiked in value resulting from some gov’t mission, and a card collector was predicting a bubble.

Two astronauts base jumping off a launching rocket, for example. There’s a powerful urge to preserve the scenes and the dialogue b/c I enjoyed it. I’m trying to think of it more like live improv w/o cameras running.

My incredible mother taught me how to use a 35mm camera and gave me some basic framing instruction when I was a kid. But I guess my "eye" comes from a lifetime of shooting as well as a lifetime of drawing and staring at photos and photojournalism and watching incredible movies.

How do you train your eye for photography? Do you develop your own?

I think that my great grandma (who died in 1947 at the age of 60) wrote poetry, anonymously, for dead relatives and published it in the newspaper. She typed her obit for herself, which includes a poem. Several printed obits also have poems, and these share phrases with her typed obit.

Really all I care about at a grid level, how rapidly are you eliminating emissions? Awesome Oz! CA too, ‘peak…’14 and has fallen in 8/11 years since... retreat is accelerating, with a 15% decrease ‘25 compared to ‘24, and a 26% drop in the first half of this year compared to the first half of ‘25’

Good morning with good news: Australia's main grid Q3 2026 gas power fell 34% to 2000 level. Why? Battery supply about tripled, while renewables set new record of 44.3%, up from 41.8%. Small solar rose enough to match itself the grid's 1.3% growth! www.bloomberg.com/news/article... #energysky

This is probably a better way to read social media.

Imagine your feed only updates 3 times a day. Early morning is the main drop and then you get nothing until some updates early afternoon and then the Late Edition in the evening with some more updates.

Yes, and, I think that these ads are way more explicitly racist. Calling out specific immigrant groups by name feels like an escalation.

Bill Lindeke@blindeke.bsky.social

Boy these attack ads are Willie Horton-type stuff. Expect nothing but racist dogwhistles from Minnesota Republicans for the next three weeks.

I'm the president of my townhouse's HOA right now. So I'm reading through the new regulations and finding much to celebrate. MN is capping fees, removing interest charges, and empowering homeowners. They're also installing an ethics code more binding than the US Supreme Court is subject to, lol.

"...a board member must not participate in deliberations regarding or vote on the approval or disapproval of a contract to which the association is or may be a party where the board member or a member of the family of a board member has a material financial interest..."

"...must not solicit or accept any money or other compensation from any person as an inducement for the board member to vote in favor... Hell yes. And also, it's just hilarious that neighborhood HOAs are more accountable than the highest officers of the federal gov't. Vote Blue, y'all.

I baked a cake using my cousin’s recipe! Katherine Truax Hallett (1904–1984) shared this cake with a genealogy friend in Mont. Co., Indiana. Gonna make some coffee and tuck in.

Provenance! Yes! I wish that people had to acknowledge this when posting. There’s an image that comes to mind: fiveman.jpg. A distant cousin uploaded it to FS. He left no source. It’s probably the only picture of two of these men (Everett Shelley & Harry Linn) and the only pic of all five cousins.

This photo is probably Everett Shelley, Harry Linn, my g-gpa Roy, his brother Arthur, and Carl Shelley (not Lynn). These being the five grandchildren of Peter and Eliza Moore Shelley, via their two daughters and two sons. Harry died young. Everett & Arthur had no children.
