I love the conversation exchanged in nods (“thanks man” “no worries”) between the person who held the train door open and the person who sprinted to catch it

There is no reason for Garfield to hate Mondays, as cats don't observe a schedule. The only possible answer is that Garfield deeply loves Jon and is saddened when he has to work.

The satisfaction you derive from accomplishing a goal—even if imperfect— is more sustaining, character building and artistically impactful than a million epiphanies. Plus you’ll actually have a finished work. Your unfinished but still “perfect” idea is just that—unfinished.

Stop getting addicted to starting things; get addicted to finishing things. This is all my creative advice boiled down. The initial honeymoon phase of an idea is indeed intoxicating and intense but ultimately: fleeting.

My favorite bit is when she says the counselors let Jason drown because they were too busy "making love." Not just going down on each other on the bottom bunk in the Seneca cabin, *making love.* Generous, romantic, tender love. Can you begrudge them this intimacy, Pamela, truly? Search your heart!

Zinesters, booksellers, small presses et al, this is a curb alert: if you want some free displays and stuff anytime before tomorrow morning, DM me for the address (Belmont Stakes area, LIRR accessible)

This got reposted recently and led me to wonder: do soup-label artists harbor the same resentment towards Warhol that cartoonists do for Lichtenstein? And it turns out, no, of course not: archive.nytimes.com/6thfloor.blo...

archive.nytimes.comWho Made That Campbell's Soup Label?Warhol is famous for it, but the Campbell’s Soup label is an icon on its own.

If you click through the MoMA post (more cries of "thief" in the comments; no prize for guessing whether they name Abruzzo), you'll find the museum's page for this piece, which includes a few paragraphs on the original Abruzzo comic, how Lichtenstein changed it and why. www.moma.org/collection/w...

So what's the big idea here? Are we crediting for-hire illustrators or aren't we? Who created the "original" original image? Do we give a damn about appropriation or are we just looking to score points?

Spotted an antique enamel topped table on the curb last night, and after much hemming and hawing I didn’t take it home. This was for certain the correct decision but I’m struggling to make peace with it.

This Wikipedia entry is exceptional, by the way. "The accusation of monorchidism in the song alluded to the theory that monorchidism caused Hitler to be insane, in the same way that "'lone nut' retains the idea of a causal relationship between monotesticularity and madness."

We are taking the family to see Akira on the IMAX tonight. We are both wearing Akira t-shirts to maximize our teenage children's embarrassment. Neo-Tokyo is about to E X P L O D E

You absolutely must see this release. I've watched Akira dozens of times in the last 30 years. Last night might as well have been the first.

Akira in 4K on IMAX is astonishing. Worth every penny and then some for the cityscapes alone.

Motherfuckers will tell you they have a "great idea for a comic" when what they have is a plot. Pal, you got bupkis

“Tony [Gilroy] finally turned to me, and he said, ‘Hey, you just got to stop pitching plot. Plot is bullshit. Plot is what happens when you get the behavior right. Pitch me a line of dialogue, pitch me atmosphere, pitch me something visual. Stop pitching stuff that happens.’” 1/2
