Dems will have to get over the idea that they can run anybody BUT a "win the war and pick up the pieces" type candidate. Whoever shows up with the most comprehensive, unflinching plan to close ranks back with workers, restore the US Constitution, and throw the fascists into jail will be the nominee.

When do we get to elect a new NPC? Is it today? I'd like it to be today

NEW: DSA's National Political Committee passed two resolutions today aimed at Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman, beginning processes that could result in DSA-LA being forced to rescind its endorsement of her this weekend and/or Raman herself being expelled from DSA by January.

You can tell it’s not an apartheid by the way they have to lock the one ethnic group down while the other one votes on what’s going to happen next

denying engagement and discussion exploited the algorithms that pushes right-wing talking head front and center against itself. Starve them of attention and push your own material en masse, and you can drown even bot armies.

even back to my first "antiracism/antioppression" trainings 25 yrs ago, and in so many other microcosms i've seen since, there's a cycle when people get radicalized by disillusionment about their own power; for many, guilt dominates the early going. distancing, projection, reactive social sanctions.

and so what's described here is absolutely i think credible and even foreseeable: a posture that understands what the world is really defined by, but isn't going through some shit about it, and therefore can actually think tactically and sensitively about what there is that can truly be done.

there will always be folks going thru woke 1. (and there is, in my humble opinion, a woke 3 too, or maybe i've lost the plot lmao tbd.) part of what happened in the last decade is the ratio of people going through woke 1 to people who already have got realllly out of whack. hopefully improving now!

but by that same experience, woke 2 is very real, archetypally speaking. even when woke 1 blows up in ugly ways, woke 2 is inevitable because, as turned off or traumatized as anyone may have been by how people acted, you can't easily unsee what you learned in woke 1. you now see with changed eyes.

This can't be underscored strongly enough. Winning elections isn't about moving your platform to the middle. It's about making your platform the most magnetic, most attractive, most effective, most inspiring, most courageous, most truthful, most relatable one around.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

Building a winning coalition isn't the Mario Party minigame where you split the steaks in half. It's Katamari Damacy, where you roll the entire universe up into a big-ass ball and then tell The Cosmos (your dad) to suck it.

This thing where people negatively polarize in favor of the word “tankie” is not clever or good. Tankies are in fact a real thing, they are a reactionary tendency, and they have no place in a pro-democracy movement. No, this doesn’t make me a liberal or a fascist. I am a libertarian socialist.

“Tankies” means that you would respond to a popular uprising — impetuous democracy — with suppressive state violence. That is directly contrary to any technical or mechanical definition of democracy. It is also incredibly self-destructive to revolutionary movements as history has consistently shown.

So anyone out here calling the word tankie a liberal slur doesn’t know ball, doesn’t know history, doesn’t know where words come from, and isn’t somebody you should take seriously. It is a criticism from the left, not the right. And it’s defensive of democratic socialism, not counter to it.

If you are an authoritarian socialist, you are not a democratic socialist. This should not be a controversial statement.

I don’t know how I’ll tell my future children that we elected Donald Trump twice. But after, I hope to be able to tell them that we learned our lesson and vaporized his party. Anything less is failure.

a thing that will not be happening is a return to the idea that "conservative" is about preserving the status quo holistically and on principle. everyone now understands it was only concerned with defending the few specific parts of the status quo that it enthusiastically torched the rest to defend

kagan formally and correctly accusing the originalists of trying to dismantle democracy, not only its evolved components but also core things that came straight from the founders (for manipulative "pressure valve" reasons), strkes me as a line in the sand there. they conserve nothing

botstorms are becoming just dead internet weather. "whoops every post on social media has 45 8-word replies today, everyone use caution"

This is the most coherent version of the story I think. You knew it had to be Elon’s idea because Trump would never think of a speed limit cap or know it could be a thing, but if Trump didn’t know about it ahead of time he and his henchmen wouldn’t have spent all week pretending it didn’t happen.

DGM@notredale.bsky.social

Musk is a direct threat to national security, whether he conspired with Trump or not—it’s not clear which is worse, and the answer being unclear is bad in itself.

Impeach & remove POTUS, throw Musk in jail for aid and comfort, disintegrate SpaceX & reintegrate it under NASA. Shareholders can get paid from Elon’s pocket. Starlink becomes a US government product like the interstate system, w/ multiple ISPs operating on it to keep the govt at distance. Type shit

I’d really love to see some polls from places nobody bothers polling, like OK and ID, just to see if the laws of physics still exist

Republicans have had two strategies for winning the midterms: - cheating - Islamophobia They’re both gonna fail, and that’s awesome. But it’s also great for Dems that Rs never even tried governing competently, having any kind of party narrative, trading favors to peel off support, solving problems

Who needs all that? Just cook the books however you can and demonize whoever seems like they might have a hard time explaining themselves. How could it fail?

Nixon really is a great communicator. I don't think I've seen her miss. She's a great candidate who's now in position to make good on an opportunity no establishment Dem consultant had the vision to imagine us having. This is why it's so important to fight to win in every state, every district.

Christopher Webb@cwebbonline.com

Just saw an exchange every politician should note. Someone said their dad was considering Ashley Moody because of negative ads about Angie Nixon. Angie showed up in the replies, addressed his concerns & made it personal. People want to feel heard, not talked at & Angie’s response is perfection 🔥

Crazy this is not obvious to Wall Street: every democracy saw what Musk did to Ukraine last week and confirmed security need for Starlink alternative. Those alternatives will not just serve defense needs, but also be viable commercial alternatives, crushing any hope of SpaceX's monopoly projections.

real democracy is a holy thing. that DSA offers folks a genuine experience of collective self-empowerment is the biggest green flag for me. it means it can be prefigurative of a world where everyone experiences that feeling on a regular basis. as it grows, the new world becomes materially more real.

Gilia capitata@giliacapitata.northsky.social

this is one of the things that I think is really valuable about DSA. It's an education is what democracy really is, and I honestly don't know any other place an American can experience that

Wild. History will record that the US switched sides in the Russia/Ukraine War immediately before the midterm election because Trump wanted Russian oil to keep prices down. If he's willing to act this desperately out in the open, I shudder to imagine what he's cooking up behind the scenes.

I just tried to call my Senator, who is Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer, to demand that he start standing up against the scourge of Islamophobia -- this motherfucker doesn't even have a voicemail box. Are you kidding me?

I had to listen to the message twice because it didn't make any sense to me -- I thought I'd missed something. The message says to call back when the Senate is in session, or fill out a web form. I cannot fucking wait to help relieve this fool of his job.

The Senate is out of session until after the election, btw. So that effectively means no way to communicate with the Senator for weeks, except for putting notes in a mailbox that will be instantly filed who the hell knows where. These ghouls need to be over and done with.

It’s at the point where taking anything that seems aimed at confounding the left at face value makes you a rube. There’s plots from every vector, on every medium, online and in real life. Our opps are ops. And they’re being paid with the billions liberals have allowed Musk, Thiel, etc to accrue.

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

I say this not to put blame on Dems but to recognize the power to fix this where it has always been — in the hands of the people, who are the sovereign authority over the economy and every single piece of how it works. But also yes, those who failed to wield this power must be relieved of it now.

yeah imo this has been fundamental to his ability to absorb scandals; most people fundamentally just think he's the apprentice guy. the impression trump's previous aggrandizement + that show left on the american psyche is so much deeper and wider than all but the biggest news cycles can approach.

but it's not "scandal" when the government is arresting your family members. it's not "breaking news" when your neighbor needs you to pick their kid up from gymnastics class. trump's error in his second term has been thinking being bigger than the press makes you bigger than the people. he's toast.

The quality of my posts plummets when I'm sick, and COVID is always the worst because it's so fucking long. You (my self) want me to keep my trap shut for a week while my bodily energies are being reallocated towards defeating a disease? Good luck with that. Sorry to y'all tho
