Democrats gave us a soft landing from a worldwide recession and the best performing economy in the world, among other things, and they were voted out. Is that what they deserve shame for? Delivering as much as could be hoped despite only having a majority for 2 years? That?

I was working for classes at UCB years ago when Walter Koenig hosted asssscat, he told some amazing (supposedly true) stories on stage that night, too amazing, and I asked him (respectfully) “were those stories true?” And he laughed and said, “No, of course not” which was pretty awesome.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Gravel bike I bought a few years ago is a little too big, REI had this on sale so I took a shot and ordered it, today I took the bus there to pick it up and rode it back about 20 miles. For a “bargain” model it’s sweet. Shimano Cues is great stuff if a little heavy.

Everyone with half a brain clocked this as a scam on day 1.

I don’t Airbnb and I don’t uber. Why? People are awful. I don’t want to sleep in some jerk’s house, I don’t want a ride in some jerk’s car. I want my room owned by a corporation beholden to various laws and afraid of lawsuits, and if I’m desperate enough to hire a car I want govt scrutiny.

Airbnb is banning its hosts from making guests do things like “stripping the bed, taking trash offsite, or washing and putting away dishes.” The hosts....are not taking it well: www.wired.com/story/airbnb...

This guy was caught on video committing one of the worst road rage incidents I've ever seen, plowing into a group of riders—and then he left the scene. Seriously, fuck the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for framing him as some sort of a victim. You are complicit assholes. www.ajc.com/news/2026/10...

Red light cameras are a tool of the carceral state and will harm the working class though, right? It’s amazing how things become NBD when it’s someone you aren’t polarized against is doing it. Talked to friends this weekend who hate Schumer bc he chatted w/ Trump but think Mamdani + Trump is fine. 🙄

I’m a CEQA practitioner and voted no. It’s just kind of a mess and is a bad way to go about CEQA reform. It basically just fast tracks review for certain categories of project and the categories are too broad. Fast track greenfield sfh housing? Please. Fast track new roads? GMAFB.

My very callous opinion is if you bought a house on the beach within the last 15 years you knew the risk and deserve nothing from the govt when disaster strikes. If you bought earlier and didn’t unload your doomed property to some sucker before disaster struck… nothing more than assessor, certainly.

LA city hall is a cursed place, like 99% of cities in CA. Raman sucks but I’d vote for her if I still lived there bc Bass suuuuucks. I’m only familiar with about half the council, whom suck, and can’t imagine the other half is any better. But the thing is: They represent their constituents very well

i think if you want to make the world better you have to start by understanding it, and that means--to be blunt--fucking charts, because large data sets and careful studies are one of the ways you escape the mind-prison known as "my gut tells me this is true, shut the fuck up"

Yup. And every American who could vote and didn’t vote for Harris chose this.

Bass is a terrible mayor because she knows exactly who butters her bread, namely NIMBYs, wealthier single family homeowners, and cranky business owners and rich people. She’s saying precisely what they want to hear re: bike lanes.

Kenny Uong@kennyuong.bsky.social

Major gotcha moment from the NBC Los Angeles mayoral debate: Mayor Bass says many supporters of Nithya Raman's campaign are advocates for bike lanes!! Duh!! Of course! Bike lanes save lives! 🚲🌴

And that's the problem. Republicans are treated like that kid who gets 70s on exams. They're rewarded for passing, given every benefit of the doubt, and never expected to improve. Democrats meanwhile are treated like that kid who gets a 94 on every exam, and scolded for losing those 6 points.

This is kind of a litmus test for whether or not you should ever open your mouth about politics or government. If you think ignoring the rule of law was the way Biden should have gone you truly do not understand what this nation is supposed to be about and might as well move elsewhere.

Every single one of these stories is like this and it pisses me off to no end

This is good, but still doesn’t quite tackle what the market has produced vs what was envisioned. Throttle assist should be limited to 15mph, max, bc 20 mph is *really fucking fast* for a trail, and most class II e-bikes are still mini-motos with 4” knobbies, not commuters only at home on streets.

CalBike@calbike.bsky.social

Good news: Governor Newsom signed SB 1167! Authored by Senator Catherine Blakespear and co-sponsored by CalBike, the new law draws a clear line between legal e-bikes and high-powered electric devices too often marketed as e-bikes.

I wish there was a realistic way to have a distinct off-road class that’s limited to 15mph pedal assist and say 10 mph throttle, because trails that aren’t open to motorcycles shouldn’t be open to things that are just about motorcycles in the context of what is normally a hiking/biking trail.

This is remarkably vile. Completely made up racist nonsense inserted into a book about punctuation. The author of this book is a piece of shit and I wouldn’t trust anything she wrote.

Now the mayor is dissing staff about the staff report and showing his whole ass. “I’m an idiot and don’t know what I’m talking about and haven’t done my homework but I’m going to go on and on about how bad the staff report is because of all the me being an idiot thing. I’m the mayor.”

Now it’s a rant about state government and how all of the reports and studies supporting the project mean nothing. Now he’s naming a state politician and stating he committed fraud, and because of that the state law passed that’s connected to the fraud is not valid so he, the mayor, ignores it.

I’m in a public hearing in a wealthy city for apartment building infill within an existing apartment complex and the place is packed with people who think it’s a crime. It’s been a while since I’ve had to sit through one of these. I don’t miss them. People are insane.

1: bicycle. 2: e-bicycle. 3: little electric motorcycle you can easily mod to go 50mph. 1 or 2 gives a teenager precisely as much freedom as 3 and are also much safer for everyone involved. These things are not “last mile” transit solutions or anything like that, they’re just little motorcycles.

It is incredibly gratifying to read an account of extreme competence in the White House. The fact that whenever we have a competent executive we find ways to tear them down speaks to what a bunch of spoiled children we are as a nation.

I tell you, the people who made I/P their entire personality after October 7, 2023, are some of the dumbest, least intellectually curious people alive (on both sides, naturally - it's the great tradition of this conflict). It's proud ignorance, myopia, and incuriosity. It's been wildly destructive.

From 34.9 to 50.4. This is why everyone who doesn’t support and vote for democrats in every election can go to hell. Climate change is the most important issue on the planet. About 18% of all US ghg emissions are from you driving your car, the 3rd largest direct source of emissions. This is terrible
