Best description I can make of Bluesky is that it is a Twitter analog divided nigh evenly between joyless people that cannot take anything without dreadfully grave seriousness, and people who are incapable of taking anything seriously.

Now, I'm not going to pretend that I'm some sort of scheduling savant (the most scheduling I've ever done is the employee schedules for a month at a restaurant)... but if I was the WNBA, I'd have answered "What should we do about Game 6 of the Finals" at some point before Game 1 tipped off.

As far as the Atlanta Falcons and their new logo background goes, it seems quite obvious to me that any similarities to Nazi designs are completely unintentional (it's quite literally their logo and colors from the 1960s slapped together). That doesn't mean it still isn't funny as hell to dunk on.

I can somewhat understand an instinctive defensive crouch on the topic of immigration from the left. It has historically and up to very, very recently been a topic the public has strongly supported the GOP on. But that is not the case right now, and we can't be afraid of it in this moment.

Let's be honest with ourselves. Bioware, in a world where they remain free, dies shortly after Andromeda bombs. Hell, they might not even have survived the fallout from Mass Effect 3.

I don't know if there is a good answer to this. We live in the world we have created. Any path forward has to come from us, because it sure as hell isn't going to come from any executive or studio.

What I AM sad for is that it didn't HAVE to be this way. It didn't HAVE to be a sacrifice to the Dark Horde that is Electronic Arts. But we live in a world where if a game doesn't promise to make all the money in the world, it's not worth making.

We, as consumers, don't exactly have clean hands, either. We helped fashion this environment where small studios have to sell to massive conglomerates, or risk an even earlier closure if one title doesn't live up to snuff.

It would not be an exaggeration to say that Bioware's games were a large part of my early development as a creator. From Baldur's Gate to Mass Effect to Dragon Age (fuck, I even gave ANTHEM a shot).

It may come as a surprise that I am not terribly saddened by their closing. Bioware as we knew it had been effectively dead for a while, and their last Dragon Age title really showed that the people who made those memorable games were no longer calling the shots.

One man refused to disavow his desire for a theocracy governing the United States of America. And it wasn't El-Sayed.

This is Tommy. Tommy had a question about my allegiances. Listen to the end to hear about his.

The goal I have for the next two years is to stop the bleeding. That's all that any left-leaning Senate and House majority could really do with all the other roadblocks still in place. WHAT they do in the next two years will be less important than showing they are doing SOMETHING.

This is artistic beauty. I will not accept any debate on this matter.

When Grammy-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens begins playing “Old Corn Liquor,” a traditional Black American folk tune, acclaimed Chinese pipa virtuoso Wu Man recognizes similarities to Chinese pentatonic music and spontaneously joins in. The joy on their faces says it all.

These are important bills to have on the record, if you will. The important thing is to NOT get angry and bitter and jaded when they obviously can't be passed right away.

Rep. Delia C. Ramirez has introduced a bill that would abolish not just ICE, but the DHS altogether, repealing the 2002 law establishing the agency and replacing it with one focused on protecting civil and human rights.

The modern GOP base is just people who suck and want to force everyone else to pretend they don't suck.

On one hand, I don't want to drag LeBron just for playing the white man's game (and frankly playing it well). But... geezus, at some point, It's not mean to ask if there are ANY lines he's not willing to cross.

Josh Gondelman@joshgondelman.bsky.social

I do not mean to single out LeBron James, but it feels completely bizarre to me that an active player is allowed to promote "prediction markets" but would get banned for life for using that service to bet ten dollars on their own team to win a game.

Even if you want to ignore Rowling's transphobia, you also have to reckon with her antisemitism and her racism.

Post Harry Potter art, I'm blocking you without hesitation. I don't care what the excuse is, don't support monsters.

Just gonna throw this out there, but "Free Palestine" and "Death to Israel" are NOT synonyms, no matter how much some terminally online twats on social media want you to believe it is.

This is a completely fair take. Even when we don't actively try to, just passively accepting the privilege is complicity. That, in and of itself isn't the sin. The sin is refusing to extend that privilege to others and perpetuating the systems of oppression.

Johnathan Perkins@johnathanperk.bsky.social

All and I mean all white people are either complicit or complacent, often both.

Which I suppose is a good question... but that's something that would (hopefully) be revealed in the actual interview process, not because someone might have a dry throat and need something to wet the vocal chords.

At the end of the day, the origins of this "rule of etiquette" most likely stems from some dickhead with a lot of money who just didn't like the sound of someone drinking, and insisted people cater to his whims, and the rationalization for it followed later.

There is a line of thought, and I suppose it's not a completely meritless one, is that bringing something like a coffee to an interview signals to an interviewer that you are someone who is not prepared and doesn't delegate their time well.

This and I think we're seeing the realization that a lot of rules of etiquette are just the hangups of people with power and privilege who insist the world cater to their peculiarities.

the conversation over Iced Coffee isn't about iced coffee it's about the social contract breaking down younger ppl have seen that employers are not upholding their end of the bargain (stable career) so they're not bothering to uphold theirs (playing the stupid corporate social games)

This is what we get when we demand our politics entertain us. We want reality TV in Washington D.C.? We can't be astonished when get reality TV characters.

There are too many people in congress who would be happier doing this, and that's part of why our politics is so stupid bsky.app/profile/avit...

It's kinda funny how Trump is railing on Canada about immigration there when Canada (like most of the developed world) is positively elated that the United States is taking attention away from their draconian and heartless immigration policies.

A huge part of the problem is there are no small number of Zionists and antismeites who REALLY want those to terms to be synonyms for their own self-serving reasons. Mr. Marshall is neither, but it's easy to drag him into those fights by virtue of his online presence.

9/ and also are targets of hate crimes. It’s not an either/or, despite our contemporary desire to sort groups into oppressed and oppressor etc. but there’s one other point that comes out in a lot of these threads. It is that while antizionism is absolutely not antisemitism. It often functions …

Yudkowsky's followers call themselves "the rationality community" these days, externally they are called "rationalists", the followers "rationalism". Apparently they think this sounds less cultlike. I personally find the very long "we are not a religion explanation" either funny or insulting.

I find it both distressing and amusing how many people are astonished that the billionaire class uses cryptocurrency to fund their criminal lifestyles considering that was and is crypto's original and fully intended purpose to begin with.

I'd argue it did... but at the same time, what we consider "slop" has also changed. A ton of people definitely looked down on blogs at the time they were ascendent. Those same people would probably look back now and think "Jeez, we had it pretty good back then after all..."
