Jesse Brown apparently has time to criticize everyone except the unhinged lunatic in the National Post invoking the same rhetoric as violent religious extremists against Avi Lewis

Mo Salah-level craziness.

And there's Kyle Connor's annual opening night goal. Make it an NHL record NINE straight seasons he's lit the lamp in Game No. 1 for the #NHLJets. The previous record was six. Thos one on the power play makes it 2-2 early in the 2nd period.

The National Post attack on NDP Leader Avi Lewis crosses the line into threat. They invoke the same religious code words used by extremists who assassinated Yitzhak Rabin. It is unacceptable to use religious intimidation to shut down debate on Gaza. charlieangus.substack.com/p/national-p...

charlieangus.substack.comNATIONAL POST CROSSES LINE ON THREAT AGAINST LEWISA recent editorial on NDP leader Avi Lewis crossed the line into an extremist hate threat. It needs to be called out.

If the National Post saw an extremist Canadian Islamic cleric online preaching violence towards a big-“C” Conservative-aligned Muslim politician, they would spend a week sourcing Op-Eds to expound on Islam’s “unique” incompatibility with secular modernity.

NDP parliamentary leader @donvdavies.bsky.social says National Post column targeting NDP leader @avilewis.ca is "appalling, irresponsible and likely criminal" The column calls for Lewis to be dealt with by way of ancient "Jewish law" while invoking loaded language used by Yitzhak Rabin's assassin

Luke LeBrun@lukelebrun.ca

The National Post is using language that seems wildly irresponsible and dangerous here Citing ancient “Jewish law,” it labels Avi Lewis as a “rodef” The ultranationalist extremist who assassinated Yitzhak Rabin rationalized his killing on the same basis: www.theguardian.com/world/2020/o...

Imagine a national newspaper publishing a column by an Islamic cleric calling on their community to “deal with” a Muslim politician who disagrees with their politics. Imagine the response by any national newspaper if such an editorial was published in any other national newspaper. #cdnpoli

I immediately considered Avi’s post problematic. I don’t like collective responsibility, I don’t like essentialism. But people - even politicians - have the right to express themselves poorly or even be just plain wrong without threats being made against them in prominent newspapers. Shameful.

September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day. Today is a time to raise awareness of the ongoing impacts of residential schools and remember the children who never came home. How are you honouring the day?

So Lanterns is turning into a bit of a mystery box - or at least trying to present as a mystery box. The problem with a mystery box is that there better be something compelling in the mystery box, or nothing outside the mystery box matters. See: LOST

I am keeping up with new episodes of Lanterns as they come out and I still can't figure out if it's a good show or not. Or what the stakes are. Some really fun bits and some great visuals.

Elite media operates as a vehicle to spread anti- social policy in the trappings of pro-social public debate. It is desperate for the attention of pro-social movements, but solely for the purpose of heading off the thought that common struggle might lead to pro-social solutions.

“I want to say to the millions of people in this country and indeed elsewhere who have been moved and outraged by the plight of the Palestinian people: we hear you, you were right." There's lots of room for cynicism, but I also had lost hope that I would ever see this day. Take the win.

The framing here is harmful and abusive. At one time you could leave a narcissistic abuser behind by the simple expedient of geography. There was no need to explicitly "go no contact". But now narcissistic parents can use social media to hold their adult children hostage - perpetuating abuse.

Many experts believe that estrangements are becoming an epidemic, driven by shifting family norms and changing therapy practices. on.wsj.com/4rBwger

The phenomenon of adult children going no-contact with their narcissistic parents is deeply misunderstood. Social media prolongs coercive power. Going explicitly "no-contact" is a last resort that didn't used to be necessary before social media gave abusers perpetual access to their adult children.

I'm so grateful that I have wonderful parents. Not everyone does. Be kind to those who have had to experience childhood trauma and are forced to re-live that trauma due to the conduct of their abusive parents on social media

Each individual picture directly contradicts the theme of the conference.

“Muscular Christianity” means that when when you’re glazing the serial predator president who deports refugee children, executes fishermen, and builds idols to himself, you TYPE REALLY HARD.

There are openly white supremacist candidates running for the Republican Party from coast to coast that you’ve never heard of because the media and political elite can’t get over a couple of Muslims running for office as Democrats.

It’s interesting that Project Hail Mary works so well as a film given that one of its core conceits - the main character recovering memories as the story progresses - is pretty clunky throughout. What does work works so well that what would ruin a lot of other films barely registers.

It’s amazing what does not go against META’s “community standards”. Break up the social media giants and de-platform racists, Holocaust deniers and bigots.
