This might seem like a small thing to a lot of people, but it would've been a complete game-changer when my twins were born last year. I had burned myself out in a huge way doing extra work so that I could justify taking two weeks off when the babies were born, then had to spend... (1/2)

1/3 👏 A big step forward for self-employed dads and their families! Extending paternity pay to self-employed fathers is hugely welcome and real win for everyone who has campaigned so hard for this! Being self-employed shouldn’t mean being left behind... www.gov.uk/government/n...

...almost all of that time in hospital. The lack of SPP for self-employed robs vital bonding time from new dads, as well as increasing the parental load on mums during a time when they're still recovering from giving birth. This is a great move that means the world to millions of dads. (2/2)

Really pleased to see Hary Kane win the Ballon d'Or. Richly deserved for a player who, despite his undeniably elite stats for club and country, still bizarrely feels underrated by fans.

Niche journalism question. Why on earth have the Guardian subs decided to leave this Americanism in Sadiq Khan's editorial about the pedestrianised Oxford Street? "Exhaust" over "tailpipe", surely?

Do I think a Glee reboot will be good? No. Do I think the original show stands up to scrutiny? No. Will I watch every single second of this reboot with a tear in my eye and a single arm triumphantly raised towards the lights? Yes. Yes, I will.

My grandmother is 80 years old. She was born several months after VE Day. This "generation" is now TINY.

Prejudices so suppressed they can only be ‘whispered’ in a national newspaper.

Absolutely tremendous news. Long live the PCC!

The Prince Charles Cinema Secures its Future The Prince Charles Cinema is thrilled to announce that we have signed a new 25-year lease with no break clause, ensuring our projectors will keep rolling for years to come. #YouSavedthePCC

I still love Bake Off, but they really have to rethink the technical challenges. If every single one of these talented amateur bakers cocks it up in the exact same way, that very much suggests the flaw is in the challenge rather than the contestants. #GBBO

Absolutely unreal performance from the lads tonight. Now that's a result showing how much we deserve to be here. Bobby Thomas was simply immense. #PUSB

This is a wonderfully passive-aggressive Christmas response at Christmas from Aberdeen Council to the annual Christmas "someone's trying to take away the word Christmas" Christmas scandal. 🎅

Really excited to get the takes from all of the politicians who were so exercised about this a few months back. What do they think of puffin over kingfisher? Was the seal snubbed? Why did the British public pick bumblebees and dragonflies over a badass shark?

deep insight into the British id contained in this banknote poll result www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I don't really have a hot take to add to the #Digger discourse. Though I do think it's weird for a movie to have a mid-story trick that works so clearly against everything that comes before and after.

Watching Inside Out while having a tough mental health week means I've spent the last two hours in tears. BUT it also means I've made the first change to my Letterboxd top four in a long time.

Zach Cregger obviously had a blast doing #ResidentEvil and I had a blast watching it. It's as narratively lightweight as possible, but packed with icky effects and absurd gore that I couldn't help but love.

My overriding feeling after watching Pressure (which is completely fine) was that it's very British to make a war movie entirely about the weather. ⛈️

Every time I see a picture of Ed Sheeran's recent on-stage statement, he looks like he's halfway through a Netflix stand-up special called Silenced, entering his 40th minute of trans jokes.

I'm in this! But more importantly, there's lots of other great critics in there ready to beef up your Letterboxd watchlist.

I'd respect Andy Burnham so much if he immediately actioned making Piddington independent from the UK. Turn off their access to the National Grid, ask the county council to stop collecting their bins, bring in border checks to leave. Let them be posh, little racists in the dark.

I just got a press release about a comedy sitcom set at a venture capital firm, produced with AI and written by a "former angel investor". I can't think of anything I'd like to watch less than that.

Oh good, we're doing the "should the RNLI save migrants?" discussion again. Apparently it's realistic to ask lifeboat volunteers to litigate people's asylum status before deciding whether to save their lives or let them drown.

The return of The Inbetweeners means the return of dozens of tabloid articles calling Emily Atack's character Charlotte 'Big Jugs' Hinchcliffe, which is a nickname I'm 99% sure she is never called on the show.

There was me getting really excited about the bird feeder with a camera my wife got me for my birthday. Turns out I've just got 9.5GB worth of blurry squirrel arse in full HD.

I really enjoyed that show, but there's not a single chance I remember enough of it to appreciate a second season. And there's even less chance I have the time to rewatch it all. How is this even supposed to work?

Marie Le Conte@youngvulgarian.marieleconte.com

just saw a story about the second season of Three-Body Problem coming soon and I mean surely we can come up with a better TV system than "hey remember that thing you watched eight episodes of two and a half years ago? no? you don't? you can't remember the plot or characters at all? well we're back!"
