I play CRUMBS! with my wife. Don't play on an empty stomach.

Hi! I’m Scott and I run Minerva Tabletop Games. I’m a board game designer, publisher and organiser for Playfest and Playtest UK. I design and publish small-box/microgames, especially those with solo play. My background is art and design and I enjoy integrating highly stylised artwork into my games.

We played twice with random nine card decks each. I was unlucky both by getting to many similar cards and getting mismatching dicepool rolls. Also playing against Moa that can easily beat me if I don't play at my best. Random starting decks needs both 1-3 more cards and perhaps some curation.

I feel stupid for not realizing that the different color borders are too similar. The cards are double coded with different icons in the top left corner but still. Always accommodate for dim lights. Good thing it's only a test print.

Today, it’s a battle of the designers! We’ll be playing both Where is That? and Flip 7. Both games are nominated for the Swedish Family Game of the Year award, Årets Spel, so naturally we had to get together and play each other’s games!

Today is my birthday (turning 30), which is the only time each year when I ask you for a repost should you like my art. Have a good day! 🦦🌿✨️ - Simon

Writing board game rules is hard work. 🎲✂️ Writing future proof rules for a living card game feels near impossible. If I don't want to reprint the whole rulebook, what do I do? Has any game managed to add rules via an appendix? Adding rules on stickers is cool but needs to be planned ahead of time.

While still a future problem I don't know how to fix I realized that the specific situation (late stage changes to several cards) that made me think about this problem works with the rules as written and does not need an appendix. Writing solid core rules to begin with is always the best solution.

My daughter Moa and I will attend #LinCon again this year hanging out in the #gamedesigner room and helping out with the #SAGA Swedish Annual Game Design Awards. I'll bring the latest Bones & Banners prototype, hopefully in a nice printing.

🎲✂️ Every time I see 'balanced' I feel it's assigned a meaning that keeps boiling down to 'no people ahead' and, of course that's not a good game >_< IMO: a game is balanced if players have a fair shot at winning, at reading when/why they may be behind, & at knowing where recovery points could be.

Addressing feedback I have done some rulebook editing and restricted the use of the word "Activate". Now it's more obvious that you Activate Dice to Play Cards and Effects get Triggered either on reveal or because of a condition.

This makes it easier to communicate that cards that are in play do not need any kind of activation in subsequent rounds, in the case of a stalemate in a previous round. Cards in play are in play and do not need further activation.

I am begging board game designers/publishers to PLEASE stop putting background images behind text on cards, in rulebooks, & on player aids. There are SO MANY neurodivergent people & people with vision issues whose brains have great difficulty trying to process this type of visual content.

I need some 🎲✂️ sell sheet help. I've created a card game that uses drafted dice for players to play cards with. With lots of cards and an irregular turn structure it's kind of hard to write a sell sheet that captures the essence of the game. Got any pointers?
