60 years ago today, the signing of the Voting Rights Act ensured representation for every community in the nation. Trump is attempting to violate that law now to roll back our progress. This isn't just about Texas – this is about America. I'm proud to stand for our democracy.

from "this week in stupid," my wrap-up of the dumbest fucking shit that happened. Margie Greene loses a battle of wits with an AI, Donny cons crypto dipshits out of millions, and more. please read the whole thing here: bit.ly/4mrrEVf thanks! (and as always, there's a longer excerpt in the alt text)

Crypto holds sway because money holds sway. If we could take the money out of campaigning, or at least, substantially lessen its power, politicians could be more responsive to their constituents.

One of the most underrated stories over the last 5 years is the Dems who have been corrupted by crypto money (growing every day as crypto pours money into primaries) causing a big split within the Dem caucus

Legal challenges to President Trump’s El Salvador deportations have focused on due process, writes @conor64.bsky.social. Less attention has been paid to another constitutional protection: the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition on “cruel and unusual punishment.”

bit.lyDonald Trump’s Cruel and Unusual InnovationsDeporting illegal immigrants is lawful. Imprisoning them in El Salvador makes a mockery of the Eighth Amendment.

@aoc.bsky.social: We must acknowledge the terrifying moment we are in right now. What we are hearing and seeing with our own eyes is, in fact, happening. We are watching our neighbors, students, and friends being fired, targeted, and disappeared. It is real.

www.nbcnews.com/politics/whi... If this does not frighten you, it should. Overt racism. Disrespect. If I was Michelle I’d be mad as hell that Barrack sat beside this man and was not only cordial but laughed with him. I’m like Michelle…diss me at all and you are DEAD to me! Birther was enough!

Exactly! One aspect of Malignant Narcissism is Sadism. People don’t fathom how deeply Trump's driven by it. In normal folk those impulses are offset by caring emotion. Trump has none. He takes glee from others' suffering. Shutdowns, cuts, El Salvador deportations, markets tanking - it's fun for him.

my humble opinion is that if your job is to manage risk and make big decisions about markets and you screw up your judgement this badly you should be disqualified from ever managing money and also shunned completely from speaking on the subject in public again

At one of his frequent press conferences (because he loves being on TV), I'd love it if some reporter piped up with, "What do you say to people who call you a know-nothing narcissistic asshole, Mr. President?"

Life comes at you ... at exactly the rate it promised to come at you during its 4-year re-election campaign where it told you exactly what it planned to do literally thousands of times.

Senator Cory Booker has now broken the record for the longest Senate Floor speech, previously held by Strom Thurmond (24 hours 18 minutes).

JD Vance holds a JD from Yale Law (and so do I). Presumably, he knows that he is disregarding the law here, and being deceptive about the protections it affords. (1/6)

what booker is doing right now is an example of what i mean when i say things like “we need more ambition right now.” there is room in american politics right now for people with ambition to take big stands and reap the rewards. he’s doing it!
