Listen: I don’t want to minimize the danger of high e-bike speeds. But if the problem here is that stores sell e-bikes that can drive faster than legal limits, then where’s the story about how literally *every car dealership has been doing the same thing for decades*?!?

cbc.caHidden cameras show some stores unlocking speed limits on e-bikes, selling e-scooters that go up to 120 km/h | CBC NewsA new hidden camera investigation by Marketplace shows how some stores are selling e-scooters and e-bikes with top speeds much higher than provincial speed limits and with recommended rider ages young...

Apply to a cool new planning role in @wsdot.wa.gov’s Active Transportation Division! www.governmentjobs.com/careers/wash... 🚲What you’d do: Support our active transportation edu+encouragement programs* that expand safe, accessible and cost-effective transportation options for WA communities 1/2

And there’s currently no requirement to label beef/pork w country of origin bc GOP-controlled congress led by John Boehner ended it in ‘15. “Just over a yr later, Boehner was appointed to the board of JBS Foods Intl,” the same Brazilian co mentioned below, which now owns several US meatpacking co’s.

After reporting on disaster preparedness and participating in events that highlight the importance of including walking, biking and rolling in emergency planning, I read stories like this from a particular perspective: www.rangemedia.co/fire-evacuee...

Every conversation about bike lanes is like: "Car crashes kill a huge number of people every day, including pedestrians, cyclists, & car occupants. Good bike infrastructure has been shown to make everyone safer (& doesn't increase congestion)." "But sometimes cyclists break rules & hit people!"

If you drive, your single goal, your only job, is to not injure or kill anyone with your vehicle. If you need to argue with this statement, find ‘There Are No Accidents: The Deadly Rise of Injury and Disaster—Who Profits and Who Pays the Price’ A book by @jessiesinger.bsky.social

I thought I built a dog-proof raised bed for tomatoes but it turns out it’s a dog-proof baby bunny hotel. A HareBnB. we’ve served multiple generations despite frequent renovations and an overly interested bellhop, and they even make their own beds.

My personal unpopular op: Politicians that say they care about traffic safety but aren’t hustling to approve safer street designs, reduce driving speeds, rein in truck bloat or incentivize bike/walk/transit are performative/unserious. E-moto/e-bike regulation isn’t even a bandaid on car culture.

It’s frustrating to see swift, loud action on e-moto/e-bike regulation when people driving have seriously injured or killed millions of people over decades, and we’ve massively underinvested in bike/walk/transit infrastructure. Car culture is durable and harder to change.
