Existing in a perpetual doze, I happen to be a person that plays the videogames. An enthusiast of STGs, Virtual-On, JRPGS and mech-related shenanigans, amongst other things. Also: Hi!

Maybe my favorite photo from this collection is the booth for Shenmue at Tokyo Game Show Autumn 1999 It's a forklift. It's just a forklift.

I have now decided that Fortune’s Weave is one of the very good Fire Emblems, with my only real gripes being a softer difficulty and that there might be too much of it. Everything else about it is pretty great though, including one of the best Treehouse localisations in recent years.

Kicking off September with an eye-opening interview between Shigeru Miyamoto and Satoshi Tajiri from 1993! The conversation is mainly focused on the newly released Star Fox and Miyamoto's ideas about polygons, shooting games, and CD-ROM media. shmuplations.com/miyamotoxtaj...

Sneaking beneath the current Discourse to say that there realistic art style would be *great* for a creepy, dark fairytale-style MM remake. Less so an OoT one though.

Been watching various streams of folk playing The Big Walk and thinking to myself ‘I’d really like to play The Big Walk.’ Kind of need to rope someone in to join me though. Maybe in time!

I can say that Apidya Special does indeed confirm that the original Apidya is, in fac,t one of those Amiga games that has aged well. It’s a generally good port/rebuild as well, as long as you understand that it pursues those ‘Amiga STG’ bells and whistles rather than the usual ‘arcade STG’ ones.

I think that it partly comes down to how eager the game was to draw from (and try to match) the wider 90s Japanese STG spectrum at the time, rather than the usual sole R-Type pulls most over Amiga shooters went for. Perhaps most unusually, it often succeeded!

Even putting aside the AI shit, immediate impressions of Dodonpachi Resurrection Reignite on here paint it as really subpar already. Like, you’re competing with an older version of your own, exact same product and instantly found wanting.

Once again finding myself thinking about this ad for the combination low-cost N64 devkit/VCD player/ROM loader, the Doctor V64, which may be the single greatest work of advertising known to man

Following Sony’s refusal to preserve anything, I’ve decided to do something I should have done a long time ago and started poking around with game emulation to explore games that might otherwise be lost to history.

Bio-Hazard Battle/Crying is not really one of those games, but you know, it’s a better STG than people gave it credit for back then. And man, do I love Crying’s boxart. It’s a *mood*.

I also don’t think the studios being cut loose will be in a positive situation as you might think. The entities that will buy Ninja Theory and Undead Labs will *not* be good, and both Compulsion and Double Fine face an *extremely* volatile market right now.

(Psst. Anybody who says the game industry isn’t in the midst of a crash right now is either a liar, daft or both. Wouldn’t be surprised if you knew that already though.)

Hoping as many people as possible land on their feet following this round of Bungie layoffs. They’re all tremendously talented people who deserve much better than the (historically at least) poor management there, as well as Sony’s current poor leadership. I’m sorry Jim Ryan happened to you all.

The (almost) entirety of Destiny 2 is currently on a very significant discount now and, as the game is now essentially complete, this is the best time to grab it. And I do recommend you do so! At the price, its highs definitely outweigh its lows.

Had an exciting finish of Marathon’s first season with my first ever Compiler encounter and *almost* kill with two matchmade randoms. Cool fight, but I was dramatically betrayed by my crew when things went south and locked out of the escape airlock and left to die with that S’pht. It was awesome.

Spending a bit of time with the 54FPS ‘Arcade’ patch on on Raiden Fighters Remix Collection now and, yeah these games do feel better to play now. Which is good. The Raiden Fighters games are awesome STGs and you should play them.

Things I’ll say: - Destiny really should have earnestly ended with The Final Shape (though, perhaps thankfully, it at least did spiritually). - Building and maintaining two live-service games at the same studio is a bit of a fools errand. - Jim Ryan really had no clue what he was doing.
