Today London Trans Pride was full of celebration, defiance, joy, tears, pride and protest. 150K trans+ people, allies, parents, partners, & children saying “ENOUGH” at the cruelty & blatant discrimination being targeted at trans+ people in the UK - much of it from our current government!

We were there in solidarity and love - with one of our founders, @alicemydaughter.bsky.social speaking out directly to new PM, Andy Burnham, with words of warning about the dire state of trans rights in the UK right now…

Being trans is not a mental illness. It is not a failure or an outcome to be prevented. Attempts to change or suppress someone’s identity are harmful and must be banned for people of all ages. As parents of trans people, we want our children to receive timely care that supports their wellbeing.

Trans+ people deserve to live, learn and work without being singled out or treated unfairly. As parents of trans+ people, we've seen how discrimination creates barriers in school, healthcare, housing and in everyday public life. It pushes people out of opportunities that others take for granted.

Our children should be able to join in with friends, study without fear, apply for jobs, travel safely and access public services without prejudice. The rights that protect everyone must protect them clearly and consistently. This is not a special request. It is equal treatment.

Our 2nd Transparent Pledge point is legal recognition. Everyone should be able to live confidently as themselves with documents that reflect who they are. For our children, and all trans+ people, this is about safety, privacy and the freedom to move through life without unnecessary barriers...

Parents know how important it is for their children to have a secure foundation. Legal recognition is part of that foundation. It protects trans and non-binary people in daily life and reduces opportunities for discrimination, delay or doubt.

Today we are sharing the first of the 7 principles of our Transparent Pledge: Respect and dignity. Every person deserves to be recognised for who they are and to be treated with kindness. As parents, we see how transformative it is when our children are called by their correct names and pronouns.

We want this respect for our own young and adult children, and we want it for every trans and non-binary person. Parents of trans people of all ages are invited to join us by signing the Transparent Pledge. Add your name to help us speak with one united voice in support of dignity for all.

Transparent Action will continue to speak up for trans inclusion in every part of society, and for the rights of our children - whatever their age - to take part in the same activities their peers enjoy. Our children deserve nothing less.

This is what exclusion looks like - It is a door closing on a child who only wanted to take part like everyone else. Our children should have a place to belong. They should be able to join clubs, activities and community groups without barriers, fear or uncertainty.

No young person should have to question whether they are welcome in the organisation they have given so much to. Inclusion should not depend on shifting political pressure. It should be a commitment that stands firm.
