No one seems to care, but these were the UK's submissions about hospital use in I v UK in *2002*. I get that the UKSC is big on reading ECtHR jurisprudence as narrowly as possible, but it really does strain credulity to think there is no Art 8 violation .

Striking how ideologically-captured the BBC has become when looking at its reporting on trans hospital changes, and just how much heavy lifting 'biological sex' is doing. Explaining that a woman with a vulva, breasts, and typically female hormone profile should be put on a men's ward? Difficult...

The ability to pour hundreds of millions of pounds into a loss-making TV channel, bent on wrenching British politics sharply to the right, is yet another of the ways in which extreme wealth is trying to remake UK democracy. It needs to be part of any serious conversation about political funding.

New GB News accounts are out. Here are their losses to date. Or "spent political donations" if you prefer

This government has made life dramatically harder for trans children and their families. The human costs are enormous. Cal is not the first parent I know that has made the gut wrenching decision to leave the country. Read this then start fighting for a world where trans kids can live and thrive.

Labour's immigration/asylum policies are profoundly racist and xenophobic. They embolden far right, undermine international law and violate basic human rights, while being even more hostile than the previous government. They can't be tweaked. They need to be scrapped. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Eye popping. Court just unsealed Summary Judgment motions in New York Times v OpenAI / Microsoft. Easy to see why the AI companies had so many redactions (pink). Their own people wrote the lede for NYT, the "largest theft of labor in human history"... "more and more substitutive..." /1

After a couple of months, re-entering the job market as a 51 year old queer woman, and newly disabled to boot was HORRIFYING. No shortlisting, no interviews, and for jobs I was overqualified for. I was scared Id never get another job!...

Ive worked hard all my life. Ive got a great CV and references. And still.. crickets. Luckily my dream employers were as happy to meet me as I was to meet them. I get to lead the brilliant Allsorts Youth. But I had to get LUCKY. Employers👏do👏better👏

Lots of nonsense gets brought up in Parliament. Some end up having negative consequences, such as when this is placed into context of how barbers and beauty salons are already framed in terms of immigration and how this could be used to fuel further attacks on the rights of people working in them 1/

💈 Today is the first reading of my Presentation Bill seeking mandatory registration for all hairdressers and barbershops in England. The Bill has genuine cross-party support and was developed on the back of an excellent Parliamentary event, co-hosted by local barber Mike Taylor...

🧵Yesterday hundreds of trans people, family and friends queued for *hours* to exercise their democratic rights -lobbying their MPs to stand up for trans people's right to live as free and equal members of society. This is me and my wonderful friend Alex after a day of running (another) mass lobby 👇

We are grinning ear to ear because 1) everything ran smoothly 2) we love each other. 3) its finally nearly 🍷o'clock (pic taken at 6:30 I think). There were SO many feelings at the lobby, but love and respect - for ourselves and each other - was everywhere. This is movement MADE of love. ❤️🏳️‍⚧️❤️

Thank you so much to the hundreds of trans people and allies who joined today's mass lobby! The queue stretched across both sides of the road outside Parliament, and so many MPs participated in meetings and responded to green cards. Together, we delivered a powerful message for change 🏳️‍⚧️

This week, trans children all over England are starting the school year in schools that have been told to segregate them from their friends and peers. If they are brave enough to do that, every single cis ally should be brave enough to show up at a lobby for trans equality 👇👇

Trans+ Solidarity Alliance@transsolidarity.bsky.social

1 week to go! Hundreds of you have signed up to join next week’s mass lobby 🏳️‍⚧️ There’s still time to sign up, and either get an appt or turn up and ‘green card’ on the day if not. We’ll be there to support you every step of the way Will you join us? www.transsolidarityalliance.com/mass-lobby-2...

Please read, and consider that it is a failure to act by cis "allies" that has left trans people in the UK in this direction position.

One of the things us an industry need to stop doing is perpetuating the 'they say this on social media, but they're a sweetheart in real life' about awful people I've had other journos say this to me about some of the most pernicious grifters over the years, some of who crossed many lines this week

We have just witnessed an incredible A/B test showing how plagiarism allegations at Cambridge University play out depending on how racialized the subject of the allegations are and it says nothing good about our society or the state of "race relations". O'Reilly is still in post.

Really recommend watching this @jamellebouie.net vid. Much of it very much applicable to the state of journalism and politics here in the UK...

Sam Ulmschneider@samulmschneider.bsky.social

Normally I just appreciatively read @jamellebouie.net 's columns-sharable video content just isn't my bag. But this is a very, very, very trenchant piece of commentary that captures a lot of how I increasingly understand the disjunction between the commentary environment and on-the-ground politics.

🧵3 month assessment on the Australian social media ban is in: very little change, and no change in practical outcomes for children and young people - no mental health or family relationship improvements, no differences in leisure time, same degree of harmful access, like loosing sleep to scrolling 🚨

Ben Schwarz@benschwarz.bsky.social

Australia’s eSafety commissioner buried a report (released Friday afternoon) that shows the under 16 social media ban didn’t tangibly reduce teen social media use, and also resulted in parents tuning out of kids usage. We traded our privacy for no reason. theconversation.com/more-than-80...

Great thread (and even better linked essays) on the evangelism of AI in big tech

Neoclassical econ assumes rationality. The corollary of, "If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?" is "you're rich, so you must be very smart!" Thus, people assume that if powerful, well-compensated CEOs insist that "AI is changing everything," well then, *AI must be changing everything*. 1/

Youthwork changes lives and it saves lives. Across the UK, LGBTQ+ youthwork organisations live hand to mouth. Supporting LGBTQ+ youthwork is one of the most practical things you can do that directly helps trans kids survive and thrive. Please give, and encourage your network to do the same.
