“What's to-day?" cried Scrooge, calling out to Claude, who was his imaginary friend. “It’s BILLIONAIRES ARE GREAT DAY!” “It’s billionaires are great day!” said Scrooge to himself. “I haven’t missed it. The LLMs can do anything they like. If Cratchett doesn’t send a card he’s fired!” #EatTheRich

From Lula’s victory speech. Hard to argue. 🇧🇷 “We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. We cannot have monstrously large corporations earning millions and billions, paying no taxes to this country and trying to steer our election results.”

Texans' ire over data centers has given Gina Hinojosa's campaign a boost, but there's another outrage: public schools. District takeovers and $$ poured into vouchers. If elected, she promises, “I’m going to fire Mike Morath on day one and hire an educator.” www.texasmonthly.com/news-politic...

texasmonthly.comAnger Over Data Centers Is Giving Gina Hinojosa's Bid to Unseat Greg Abbott a BoostThe Austin Democrat’s campaign to unseat the three-term governor looked like a long shot. But she’s been able to capitalize on Texans’ anger on two major issues: data centers and schools.

Talarico: You want to know why they are spending $200 million against me? Because I don’t take their corporate PAC money and I never will. I don’t work for them. I work for you. When we flip this seat in Texas, I’m going to vote to ban corporate PACs so billionaires can’t buy our elections.

Talarico: They may have the money, but we have the majority. They’re trying to make this election about anything other than their corruption. You should believe our movement can beat their money because they sure do.

Wow, it is amazing how screwed up traffic in Austin is right now because of the dumb race. Do not go east of 35/south of 969 unless it’s an emergency period. It hasn’t even started yet and I had to come to a full stop on 71 E.

All politics aside, that guy Talarico must have a wagon to carry all his phones. I block and report spam at least once a day but he just keep texting me from new numbers.

James Talarico: The most corrupt politician in Texas, Ken Paxton, is everything that's wrong with this broken, corrupt system. He doesn't serve us. He serves himself. Since taking office, Ken Paxton has increased his net worth by $27 million. Ken Paxton now owns 15 homes.

One challenge of being a liberal crafter outside of major cities is having to decide which you hate the least: Walmart, Michael’s, or Hobby lobby.

@teamtalaricohq.bsky.social in TX Govt class I learned funding is a 3-legged stool of property tax, income tax, and sales tax, but TX has to balance on 2. Now you say cut property tax, so that leaves sales. Why do you want the most regressive system? Why should poor bear the brunt of the burden?

Steve Vladeck@stevevladeck.bsky.social

Calls for expanding #SCOTUS are entirely (and increasingly) understandable. But as today's "One First" explains, there are at least four difficult questions that those who support expansion should have to answer—especially as compared to other possible reforms: www.stevevladeck.com/p/bonus-257-...

strategic political capture of the court has, for 40 years, been a one-way ratchet. among other things, this has inculcated a sense among conservatives that they can act with virtual impunity. showing them that their opponents will play hardball is a necessary first step toward a better status quo.

In any event, I actually answer your four questions similar to how you do yourself. I just think that the *aggreed upon downsides* are not really downsides, when understood properly. It's not a "so what" answer. It's a "no, actually this might be better" answer.
