Putin will be laughing his head off. NATO includes non-aligned Turkey. Trump has no intention of sanctioning Russia and has found a formulation to point the finger elsewhere. Despicable. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Well worth reading. Suggests Labour has nothing to lose by taking Brexit head on to shore up its core vote and improve the economy. Aping Farage only strengthens his minority support. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
BBC News platforms a climate sceptic on Radio 4 World at One to back up Reform’s questionable view that fossil fuels are cheaper than renewables. The fact she also disputes global warming should be mentioned as essential context. www.desmog.com/2023/06/22/c...

This is deeply worrying.
I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE. This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined. It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.
This is spot on. Farage goes from strength to strength because his opponents think their best line of attack is to wear his clothes. 🤦
It's striking that the one person who's taken no political damage from Brexit is the person who did most to bring it about. That's partly because Lab remains afraid to talk honestly about the impact of Brexit. So long as that continues, they'll take the heat for the consequences of Farage's project

It will probably come as no surprise to anyone that Brexit has been slammed as a 'complete disaster' that 'ruined most of the country' in a poll marking nine years since the UK voted to leave the EU www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...

Sources said that even at the start of his second term, Trump was discussing with multiple advisers where & when it would make sense to send in federal troops, either for supposed crime control or in response to larger-scale public activism against his agenda. 🔗 www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...
Trump has wanted a police state with himself sitting at the top as its undisputed boss since his first administration. The standoff in L.A. shows how truly eager he is to turn America’s vast warmaking powers inward on his domestic foes and critics. Story: www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...
Checking in on our American cousins. Republican speaker calling to mind KKK punishments? Just fine. 🙈
Mike Johnson says Gov. Newsom should be "tarred and feathered." "I'm not going to give you legal analysis on whether Gavin Newsom should be arrested, but he ought to be tarred and feathered, I'll say that."
And he describes other sovereign nations sanctioning Israeli far right ministers as “overreach”, saying the US will respond (in)appropriately.

🚨🚨Great @newsagents.bsky.social talk between @eddavey.libdems.org.uk and @maitlis.bsky.social. ED:" I think the customs union is the first big step, that would make a major difference to our industry, really boost growth". EM: "And if it is the fingers up to Donald Trump, so be it" ED: "Yeah".

🚨🚨 I would like to say I am surprised but this devastating policy move by the #Trump administration is largely in line with its ongoing authoritarian crackdown on science, democracy, rule of law and all other values we hold dear in a modern liberal society. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Replying to @aphclarkson.bsky.social
There is a horseshoe dynamic when it comes to Brexit supporting academics. In the 1990s right-wing scholars shifted from anti-Communism to viewing the EU as USSR 2.0 while left-wing ones portrayed the EU as a imperialist capitalist project. By the 2010s they were agreeing with each other on panels

🚨🚨OK, so let us take a step back and then review carefully what was actually agreed today between the EU and the UK. Tldr; small minor nibbles around the corner of the basic Frost-Johnson TCA deal which remain the cornerstone of the relationship. 🧵 ec.europa.eu/commission/p...

This is a superb new resource about rejoining the EU. rejoin.info It takes all the thorny questions, and the objections and obstacles people throw in the way of rejoining, and tackles each one slowly, factually and calmly. Bottom line: we can rejoin. It won't necessarily take a very long time.
Succinctly put. Labour hasn’t built a counter narrative and is stuck with apeing its opponents.
Labour's immigration announcement today is a reflection of the paucity of honest debate by BOTH political parties over the last decade on this issue. Labour has never made a counter-argument, or been honest about economic cost of immigration curbs, so it's stuck making Tory/Reform arguments 1/n
