Great Tits for #FirstBirdOfMyDay (always a good start) through thick mist thanks to freezing air over a relatively warm River Forth. Woodpeckers enjoyed the still conditions and there was a “Ratatatatat-off” going on from the different dead trees (like to leave some standing where safe to do so).

Mist mostly lifted while we were at Church when I dropped off M&D… Sun burning through. Duck on the river and a Cormorant. Geese quieter this morning; perhaps their “Navigation Systems” wouldn’t work in the earlier Mist. 🤞 fewer Powered Paragliders today. @hannahbournetaylor.bsky.social

Many thanks St Michael & All Angels #Helensburgh - for having me to speak today on #StJohnScotland ( @stjohnscotland.bsky.social ) and to give an update on the incredible work in Gaza, the West Bank, Nablus and Jerusalem of the amazing teams at the #StJohn of Jerusalem #EyeHospital Group 👏♥️.

Very #Autumn feel to the morning; #Dahlias still putting on a show, but the colours of the trees & foliage in the #garden after the lightest of frosts a few days ago are on the change.

Notably smaller strike impact area of dispersion of feathers with a sparrowhawk as compared to when the #Peregrine hits a pigeon. Interesting how frenetic the feeding is; there are Ravens & Buzzards about and all those feathers will attract them. #BirdsOfPrey

Felt like #Autumn2026 started this morning; misty, heavy dew, some colour change in the leaves but mostly still very green. 🙏 for a gorgeous start.

#Dahlias really going for it and putting on a show which will last until the first #Frost . #FlowerPower #Flowers #WalledGarden

Camouflage of #Butterflies & #Moths is brilliant. #PaintedLady in the Pear Tree… … and a #SilverY beside a young (I am guilty of leaving too much fruit on it this year) Apple Tree. #WalledGarden

#LastBirdOfMyDay … straight after seeing a Kingfisher above the mighty River Windrush (which, I am pleased to say, looked clear and in good health). As for this …. Errrr.

…while the Norwegian #Maple just behind it has that one branch that every year, before any other tree in the whole Inner & Outer Parks, decides that it is done with Summer and puts on its Autumn palette. [❤️ the Hydrangea “Vanille Fraise” in the foreground]

#ThickTrunkTuesday x #Oaks x #Owls x #FridayFungi A ladder of bracket fungi going up to an Owl’s nest - a Tawny Owl’s nest and at least 3 owlets came from this one.

#Beavers been properly busy in a wood that we had been planted a while ago along a wee burn that leads into the River Forth. As you can see they have been busy doing plenty of “thinning” work… …would like them to get stuck into more of the Rhododendrons. Balance? Field drains fall into this burn.🤷‍♂️

#Harvest2026 - #Plums falling into my hand as I went back for more this evening after making the first batch of #jam this morning. I confess the first batch is very runny which will place many jumpers in harms way this Winter (when this hot Summer will feel a long time ago). #WalledGarden

Morning light on the Carse of #Stirling, hitting the #Trossachs . Just 5 degrees on the thermometer. BBC R4 Weather forecast says apparently will be cooler tonight. Lot of discussion about the strength of this year’s El Niño. I also fear strong #storms this Autumn. Watch Agri #Commodity prices.

The other “MCG” saw Gargunnock & Kippen #Cricket Club v Milngavie CC last night. With @argyllsmuseum.bsky.social #StirlingCastle in the distance. Heavy skies after earlier rain (River Forth here had risen nearly 7 feet after heavy rain earlier in the week) but a game was completed. #Meiklewood

#ThickTrunkThursday : #Oaks in front of home.. interesting that the stubbier really much older tree has had a notably good season of leaf compared to the taller one (great straight trunk) who has been shedding limbs for last couple of years. Signals from #trees.

Great sages of #Insects ; what is the name of this massssive (3.5 + cm) #horsefly that was resting on my windscreen? (Stirling 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿). For the time being he shall be named, “Tony”.

After the recent heat on the Costa del #Stirling there was quite a heavy dew this morning. You could see the wee spider webs over the “#Lawn”… … I say “lawn”, as in reality it is a mix of #Moss, Selfheal, #Clovers, Buttercups, Dandelions and usually a #fungus of some sort has stuck their heads up.

Sir Garfield St Aubrun Sobers. The 🐐from #Barbados . 8000 Test runs at 58 with that high back lift. Top score 365* AND 235 Test wickets at 34 (could change bowling style to suit) AND 109 Test catches AND A lovely kind man as well, generous with his time #cricket Rest In Peace Sir and thank you. 🙏

3 very healthy, inquisitive and perky Owlets in the near hay shed #BarnOwl box this year (last year 2 fully fledged). Absolutely adore them. 💚 the look they give you as they are being measured, weighed and ringed. Too sweet. #Owls #Pasture #Farming #HedgePorn #Birds

Middle Scott son bowling (successfully) to a gentleman who I coached when I played a season in Zimbabwe in ‘91/92 who now lives over here and an absolutely lovely bloke. Made me feel just a tad old. Good ball to be fair. #Cricket

Happy and healthy cows & calves with plenty of grass and space. Heatwave is firmly to the South of us. Quite striking Stratocumulus undulatus (?) #clouds over the Wallace Monument reaching towards the Ochil Hills. #Stirling #cattle #Pasture #Meiklewood

Love the impromptu #Cricket “maidan” on Ayr’s Low Green. Spotted when walking back from the reception at the South Ayrshire Council office in the early evening after a warm day. I was tempted to join in but realised that would be optimistic for my suit trousers. #SunnyScotland #FestivalOfStJohn

Say hello to our little friends… #Bumblebees (or “Babbus” as my sproglets used to call them, as in, “Dadda, look at the size of that Babbu”). #Bees , #Insects, #Pillinators

Bumblebee Conservation Trust@bumblebeetrust.bsky.social

June is a special month for UK bumblebees – the Big Eight are joined by more of our rare and less common species 💛 👑 This month, most of these rare and less common queens will produce their first daughters – the workers 💼 🎱 For the Big Eight, many queens and workers will be joined by new males 🚹

Masses of #Oak Saplings thanks to: #MastYear in 2025 x #NoMowMay x #RedSquirrels 💚 (and no longer having any grey #squirrels here) Will lift some of them and pop them in some gaps. Well sown is half grown 😊

#ThickTrunkTuesday x #DeadTreeSociety … Old Chestnut which actually still has some fresh growth at lower branches, framed by Rhododendrons at the base and some very alive Pine, Chestnut and Oak trees, with Gargunnock Hills in the background.

#Hares on the path through the grass as #Swallows sweep between the #Oaks above the sheep and cattle with the moon up over the Costa del #Stirling. Lots of #butterflies & #moths on manoeuvres but most birds are focused on chasing fluttering Mayflies. Lovely evening. 💚🙏 #Livestock #Farming

#ThickTrunkTuesday - the wonderful dappled light coming through the leaf canopy of a #CopperBeech . Still a strong smell of Wild Garlic… but a place of still, calm and coolness in the middle of a very warm day on the “Costa del #Stirling”. 💚
