The achievements of the Serbian student movement will be studied for decades. This was their blueprint for revolution. The recipe for throwing a corrupt authoritarian from office. Read, learn, implement. (📸 Save and Saclony)

A stable liberal government is a tail possibilty as is a rerun of the current coalition. Which brings us to the final days of the campaign by a very stressed Netanyahu. There is a growing consensus he's looking for military escalation that will postpone the election or force a unity government.

And because this is percentage based and not absolute number based, the more people vote, the higher the threshold. At least on the liberal side, a lot of people are going to vote, including upwards of 60,000 Israelis who flew in to cast a ballot against this government.

The shift away from the US continues. Ten countries have now signed on for Macron’s Forward Deterrence initiative, including the UK, Germany and Poland, WSJ reports. Under the plan, France would station nuclear-capable fighter jets across Europe as trust in the US erodes.

Bolsonaro had corrupt media on his side, Meta interference on his side, US propaganda operations, and his party's officials actively sabotaging public transport in Lula strongholds to prevent turnout. Yet he was still beaten by the power of voter turnout.

The numbers aren't capped as such under free movement, but people cannot move solely to claim benefits and serious criminals can be expelled or refused entry - so "unlimited" is misleading

Pleased to report that Ghosts The Possesion of Button House is absolutely brilliant. 10/10. Funny, emotional, and perfectly written and performed. Nice to see @gmcgiv.bsky.social popping up in it a couple of times too! We love Barclay....he should have a spin-off series.

Steve Hyett@stevehyett.bsky.social

Right then, off to the pictures. Let's go and see if this Ghosts movie is any good, then.

Yup. Can confirm. Small screen transfers to the big screen don’t always work. But I’m extremely happy to report that isn’t a problem in this case.

The achievement of Serbian students overthrowing Aleksandar Vučić can't be overstated. In 2024, they began protesting. In 2025, they transformed a protest movement into civil dissidence. In 2026, they became a political party — and two months later, crushed a corrupt state-entrenched authoritarian.

And much of Oxford Street is going car-free from tomorrow! I don't even live in London anymore but I'm genuinely excited about this. If it works well, it could be one of Khan's big legacies. People have been talking about doing this for literal decades, and now it's happening.

First Orban, now Vučić. Both fundamentally undone by rank corruption of their regimes. Which is so often the reality of the authoritarian right in power. Really worth paying heed to in Western Europe right now

Tbf to Emily this actually starts at the top. If Andy Burnham, the government and all his MPs moved across to another platform what's likely to happen? Journalists stop reporting on them? Obviously not. They'd follow them.

At Labour conference I asked Emily Thornberry, who’d just explained she hated Twitter, why she couldn’t quit. “I’m on Twitter because journalists pick it up. If I put it on Twitter they pick it up. If I put it on other platforms, they don’t.” Which is prob true and a challenge for politicians!
