This is an issue @cucfa.org will be taking up this year. Our student:faculty ratio just grows higher and higher—much higher than comparable institutions. Meanwhile we’re buying campuses and hiring more and more administrators. www.sacbee.com/news/local/e...

If colleges and universities are to truly serve the public good, they should not be made answerable to the political program of a particular administration. UCFA & its associated campus chapters urge the UC to reject Compact 2.0. cucfa.org/statement-on...

Thanks to the advocacy of hundreds of faculty who joined the fight through their Faculty Associations, the $7.5B California Research Fund (SB 895) is now headed to the 2028 ballot where this funding decision will be in the hands of California voters. cucfa.org/ca-research-...

We can build new institutions. This institute will have community appointees on the board helping decide, alongside scientists and academic workers, what science gets prioritized for funding.

This year, FAs successfully defended trans care, HIV research, and community health programs at the UC from feds' illegal attacks. Yet, political interference in higher ed continues, shuttering programs and censoring what we teach. As we celebrate Pride, we must remember that the fight continues.

We’re calling all our UC colleagues to show up on Tuesday at 2pm at the William J Rutter Center at UCSF (1675 Owens St., SF), where the Regents will be meeting to discuss the Trump "demand letter," for a rally to express our support for academic freedom, public education, and healthcare for all.

The UC Union Coalition Demands: No concessions No capitulation No cuts Yes to jobs Yes to educating future leaders Yes to healthcare autonomy Yes to lifesaving research Yes to protecting an engine of economic mobility

On Tuesday, UCB Chancellor Lyons and others will speak before the Committee on Education and the Workforce Hearing that is part of the MAGA agenda to defund higher education and limit free speech on campuses across the country. Read our full statement here: bit.ly/fa-hcew @psc-cuny.org @aaup.org

On June 23, the Regents’ Workgroup on Faculty Discipline Policies and Procedures released Interim Policies. Some will go into effect Fall 2025 without review, including: Coordination of discipline with UC Police Departments for all misconduct cases, including those regarding expressive activities.

Another new interim policy that will go into effect Fall 2025: Faculty may be disciplined for extramural speech when the “university’s interests” outweigh the “employee’s expressive interests.” We must resist these blatant attempts to criminalize and chill faculty free speech!

WHAT CAN YOU DO? Express your concern and outrage over this overreach by the UC Regents by: Giving public comment at the July 15-17 Regents' Meeting. Give feedback (ask your colleagues to too) during the 90-day systemwide review period - the link will be sent out through Academic Senate Committees

We recognize the importance of securing data, but UCOP has completely bungled President Drake's cybersecurity mandate, leaving many important faculty questions unanswered. We must now call on UC to postpone this mandate. Faculty can join us in making this call at: sites.google.com/view/delay-m...

If the block on the Federal Register isn’t removed in the next few months, I fear a majority of labs will close within a year. This small procedural wrench has the power to kill US science indefinitely, losing an entire generation of discovery and innovation.

I had two grant proposals up for review in the NIH Bacterial Virulence (BV) study section. It was canceled without notice this morning. Without those grants, my lab must close within a year. And so the purge of scientific research in the US continues 🤬 #MicroSky 🦠🧫🧪🧬🔬
