hate to see the bc conservatives win, but also david eby got exactly what he deserved for taking such a cynical and opportunistic move when he had two years left on his majority government
Eby lost this election through multiple egregious mistakes, arrogance & lack of political skill.
But we also need to see his catastrophic loss as proof of what happens when "progressives" swing to the right.
Eby is not the first centrist to be taught this lesson. Can the NDP learn?

If a tech company told you their device was 8-12x more effective and 100x cheaper than competitors, you’d fund it instantly.
That device exists. It’s called an existing forest.
Fund forest protection like critical infrastructure.
There's something so bleak about Canadian Old Guy centrism: sorry if your kid needs a good schooling, there are deficits to think of, why are we splurging on nurses etc. The root of it is they have no interest in the future.

The only ped crossing for the next 1000m on this busy “residential stroad” in the exurbs of Melbourne. There are 2 or 3 bus stops between here and there. Sidewalk ends on one side. #carsruincities
According to my TikTok, Australians are also complaining about food prices. I have always found the cost of groceries in Aus to be less than in B.C.
🇦🇺 450g tofu at Woolworth’s - $2.80
🇨🇦 340g tofu at Thrifty Foods - $3.50
(Our currencies are pretty much at par)
Coincidentally, both the 🇦🇺State of Victoria and the 🇨🇦province of BC are having elections right now. Public grocery stores seem to be a proposed solution in both.
If you want to live in a congested and irrelevant city 10 years from now—keep on building freeways to the suburbs.
If you want to live in a prosperous and livable city 10 years from now—invest in the best transit you can today.
You mean like how you promised a grocery rebate cheque to subsidize grocery store revenue? Or how you never did anything with the gas station price fixing? Or how you are basically destroying TransLink and BC Transit to make sure everyone is having to burn more gas to drive everywhere?
The big grocery chains are charging too much for the essentials. I won't back down from fighting for lower grocery costs and lower gas prices for you and your family, every single day.
Went to UVic GoByBike Week Celebration station. Took the two-way bike lane on Finnerty road. Saanich rescue at the scene of a crash: a driver turning into a parking lot right-hooked a cyclist.
For the love of pete, drivers need to shoulder check! 😡 we also need better infrastructure in Saanich.
Hey listen to this overcast.fm/+ABTxbYgZZLA@thewaroncars.bsky.social episode on cycling safety and helmet use. It’s spot on, especially talking about fear-based reactions. Really gave food for thought. Thanks!
Regenerative grazing has gotten a lot of buzz — maybe thanks to big money from the beef industry? — but it’s NOT an effective climate solution.
I wish it was. But it’s time to move on from greenwashing and focus on things that work.
The science shows regenerative grazing simply doesn't work
And I get it, it's a captivating well funded story ($200M from McD's otw), and it's easier to convince many that small tweaks are all that's needed vs. actual systemic changes away from beef
🧵here's 8+ reasons why this won't make beef eco
This German comedy sketch (with English subtitles) perfectly captures so much of what is going on right now in the UK, the US, and across Europe.
"Playing the 'Nazi Card' in the Third Reich", by Browser Ballett.
Haven’t found the sci fi portion of BlueSky yet but can we talk about Silo s3 finale and The Prisoner references? I’ve been hate-watching this season of Silo (ugh so much to loathe) and nearly gagged at the “W H Y ?” and the “Be seeing you.”
It’s giving “get that name out of your filthy mouth.”
I love how ebikes spark the moral panic while I, on an ebike, am constantly getting my doors blown off by exercise bros trying to set a new personal best on our shared path system using nothing but their leg power.
We biked to Fibration fibre festival in Fernwood today with the wee bairns. I’m surprised there weren’t more bikes there, it seems the knitters and weavers among us still skew to the blue-haired set who don’t use bicycles for transportation?
You can bet the family farm that the children & grandchildren of Trump and all his sycophants are up to date and on schedule with all the recommended vaccinations.
What more can be said about this unhinged antivaxx sh*t❓
Yep, this embrace of lies & cult-y anti-science rhetoric will kill people, mostly kids.
Yep, it will lead to more confusing information chaos.
Yep, Bhattacharya is a spineless sycophantic coward.

Prime Minister Carney's enthusiastic willingness to accept and fund oil and private profit is putting the Salish Sea in danger.

What is our government doing? This project defies common sense - this is corporate welfare on a surreal scale, giving a gift to an industry making $90 billion in excess profits this year, and which still refuses to pay for its own infrastructure.
Ted Lasso season 1 ep 3 (?) rewatch EPIPHANY: we find out that Keely is the GOAT. She waltzes into Rebecca’s office to thank her for killing the Ted photo, saying “It’s always the woman who bears the brunt of the bad press, amirite😉?” She knows/suspects it was Rebecca behind it! 🤯
@iwriteok.bsky.social Canadians have probably let you know this already but (re: Ian Smith episode 1 on BTB) we repatriated our constitution from Britain in 1982; we haven’t been a British dominion since then.
The wrong public figures keep dying.
RIP Sam Neill. We wanted to visit Two Paddocks when we were in Otago several years ago but they had no cellar door, and besides it was Christmas break. We did see a Two Paddocks truck on the road and imagined it was Sam Neill going to feed Helena Bonham Carter ♥️
This is one of the busiest stretches in and out of the most populous area of BC and there is precious little public transportation to serve all the people who need to get around - so a large part of the solution is buses and dare I say train service…
If our PM thinks fighting climate change is “expensive” and “divisive” then he ain’t seen nothing yet as we continue to do practically nothing about it.
On the 5th Anniversary of #Lytton burning in a #heatwave that killed hundreds of people in Western Canada, Carney shows his love for dirty fossil fuels. Heatwaves are becoming more dangerous because of climate arsonists like Carney. And solar and wind are less expensive. #bcpoli#climate#cdnpoli
My new NonaBike™️ commute is to UVic via Mackenzie. Sorry, but Nona NOPED out of that route. I don’t care if there are plastic “bollards”-it does not feel safe enough.
Looking for alternative routes to UVic that don’t involve 4 & 5-lane stroads with lots of sketchy intersections and slip lanes.
Is the UK just generally the land of last-minute chaos? We thought it was just trains that announced the platform five minutes before boarding. Turns out it’s airports too, with announcing the gate for your flight at the last moment.

I’m kind of joking but not really. With so many people we found just walking city streets to be chaotic. In Canada everyone generally walks on the right side. In Australia everyone generally walks on the left side. In the UK? Vibes only, or chaos, depends on your mood I guess.
I am a new fan of Yorkshire tea. I took the last bag from our London hotel room and (ironically) had to brew it when we got to York, where it was NOT provided in our hotel room(!) I bought a bag of loose tea at the Tesco in Inverness but I hope it’s available in Canada when we go back home.
