Hey, you all should play Penguin Colony. Not just because it's a game where you play as Penguins in Antarctica, or that the hype being pretty well founded, or it's neck-deep in interrogating Lovecraft and it has Nazis go completely mad, although absolutely all those things.

its capacity to speak truth to power stands in stark contrast to so much of games writing which feels powerless to speak meaningfully against the status quo. it reminds me of an old mckenna quote: “The artist’s task is to save the soul of mankind; and anything less is a dithering while Rome burns.”

Penguin Colony might be my game of the year, good god. please go play it. there is a spark of legitimacy and depth and insight in its narrative that is so so rare in games writing. it's so special.

I am kicking myself now that I should have been more explicit about the expedition results. Probably should have called them "Blakely's Expedition Results"

Even the games name "Penguin Colony" is to play into this idea. A Colony? They are Indigenous. Almost every penguin in the game has a colonial name -- "King" "Emperor" "Magellan" "Gentoo" "Adelie" After the game we are shown all of this information as our expedition results.

Having players begin to question the ever present colonial language in games was intentional. Even the game mechanic of "collecting" and "discovering" was something I wanted to challenge. You are shown what you found It is up to you to question the validity of. What you find has Nazi appraisal
