I can eat me dinner in a fancy restaurant

Heaven 17 last night. I really wanted one of those baseball caps, but, unfortunately, they make me look like that cartoon bloke from the old 7-Up advert. Anyway, this is the best gig I've seen this year. Absolute bangers from start to finish, including this, which they started with.

Let's not piss about. Saying, "But look at what City's success has done for the city of Manchester" is akin to saying, "That bloke did raise shitloads of money for Stoke Mandeville Hospital".

Mr Sven Olafsson, Sir Charles Ollendorff, Mrs Betty Norday, whose name sounds remarkably like Norway, Mr Brian Waynor, whose name is an anagram of Norway, Mr and Mrs Ford, whose name sounds like Fiord, of which there are a lot in Norway, Ron and Christine Boslo... Your boys took a hell of a beating!

Travelling to Bristol Airport this morning was a nightmare. The usual diversions because they'd shut the tunnel (every single time). But roadworks in Bristol and terrible signage sent me to a cul de sac in a council estate. A bloke in a roadworks lorry told me to go back the way I'd come and...

We had to run, actually run, to get to boarding. We'd been in the airport nearly two hours. It's got a huge footfall now, Bristol, but no strategy for coping with it all, and no transport infrastructure. It's still a small airport at heart, but now servicing many thousands more people. Shambles.

Anyway, I'm here now, the sun is shining, and I'll forget about them from here on in. But when I book again, it's Cardiff. Doesn't matter where they fly to. "Moldova in May?" "From Cardiff?" "Yes" "Let's give it a whirl".

... start again. HOW??! Thank God for a young taxi driver who'd just finished his shift and then Google Maps for getting us there. Plenty of others found themselves in the same quandary. From which there was the Hell of Bristol Airport itself. Two hours of interminable waiting, queuing, repeating...

If there's one TV character I can identify with, it's this one.

50 YEARS AGO TODAY: The Fall And Rise Of Reginald Perrin starts by setting up Reggie's increasing impotent, in more than one sense, frustration with everything.

This is great. From 1989, William Shatner (95 last March) being surprised by Michael Aspel (93 last January). Both still sprightly, then and now.

It's #StarTrekDay so lets enjoy William Shatner, This is your life, from 1989 On ITV.

I saw Bruce Forsyth on his last tour in 2015. I'd waited years to see him, and it was a fantastic night. Brilliant. "BUT..." When he came on, he pulled out a bit of paper and pretended to read from it. "Nice to see you... well, you know the rest" Why, Brucie? We were all waiting to shout, "Nice!"

Richard Keys' tribute to Frank Beard: "A powerhouse drummer, a tour-de-force, the heartbeat of the greatest little band from Texas ever. Unlike Gianni Infantino. Dreadful individual. "

Really sad news about the sudden passing of the brilliant Tim Brown. Most won't know him, but many do for his superb drumming with acts like the Classic Rock Show, various tributes to bands as diverse as Blur, The Carpenters, Michael Jackson and the Dave Evans Band, and for many years...

... in the drum seat for Martin Turner, who I saw him play with maybe 7 or 8 times over the years. In fact, they were just in a break in their latest tour when the news came through. And by all accounts, including mine, a really nice chap, one of the good guys, and a character as well. RIP Tim.

For a junk drawer to legally qualify as a real junk drawer, what is the ONE absolute mandatory item it must include? Two nasal sprays, a jar of Vicks Vapor Rub and a small bottle of eucalyptus oil.

Huw-bris. A convicted sex offender submits his first poem for consideration at the Eisteddfod, then refers to a critic, a victim of child sexual abuse, as "sickeningly self-righteous". The Voice of Rock joins Coverdale in retirement. I was lucky enough to have seen him twice over the last few years, both times doing a Deep Purple show. He was brilliant. Hope he recovers fully from his heart surgery.

If there is one tiny sliver of positivity I can take from our continued exile from the EU, maybe the only positive thing I can think of, it's that it pisses Steve Bray off. He's a prankster, a pound-shop Beadle wannabe. That's it.

So here's my take. Tuchel's tactics and subs weren't "unfathomable". England were already in trouble because the team was retreating. He bolstered the defence. It didn't come off. He could have bolstered the attack, and that would have come with its own risks. Argentina's subs all made a difference

... England's didn't because, unlike Argentina, they were a drop-off in quality to the players they were replacing. Tuchel's tactics were reasonable and had already worked earlier in the tournament. It didn't come off this time, but it doesn't follow that what he did was "unfathomable".

Everyone's a football tactics expert today. Including, in large numbers, people starting their sentences with "I don't know anything about football, but..." Last time we saw anything like this, we were talking about R-rates during Covid.
