Real code: Connect to the database -> succeed/fail. Run 100 tasks, or don't. Clanker code: Database connectivity is lazy. When the app needs to connect, send a lightweight probe. If it succeeds, allocate a massive connection pool for 100 tasks. If it fails, skip over every single one of the tasks.
