Everyone has the same fantasy: a full restful night's sleep, waking gradually with no time pressure, a luxuriating shower, and dressing in comfortable clothes only to find a steaming mug of coffee and a freshly baked cabbage roll waiting for you. Everyone.

Watching "The Winds of War" because you're not my TV Boss, and Robert Mitchum reminds me of Astro City's Tarnished Angel, Steeljack (a tribute to RM). And that reminds me there's a Humble Bundle with all of Astro City and it's only got a few days left. So--now I have a Robert Mitchum surplus!

For the first time in forever went to a bar with live music tonight (guy with a sampler and guitar who did a hell of a job with dad-rock). Ate wings, had a ginger-ale and although I probably only heard about 33% of what my friends said (a mix of ambient noise and bad hearing) I had a very good time.

First single I bought with my own money? I don't know if I have *ever* bought a single. I certainly don't recall doing so. But every time I was in Toronto back then I would spend an hour flipping through the racks of vintage singles at Peter Dunn's Vinyl Museum. Man that place was great.

First single you bought with your own money. No lying! no one knows what it's like to be the bad man to be the sad man… youtu.be/KmbCOMM8peo?...

I won't post it as I suspect it's computer generated art, but I saw a hilarious *Elvis as Captain Marvel Jr* "oil painting." And I just want to say we here at my place are 100% behind more Captain Marvel Jr and Mary Marvel representation! (Courageous of me, I know).

#boardgames Tonight we played Galactic Cruise. (4p) We didn’t have time to complete it, but a fun game I hope to revisit on an afternoon when we can let it play out. Worker placement lies at the core of the game but there’s a lot going on, with great little player guides to help.

My track record for voting in Municipal elections isn't great. But with the Advanced Polling Station as close to my place as it would ever be (and closer than the election day stations) voting seemed like an easy choice. The return trek? A half hour in the sauna. Stupidly hot and humid for Oct.

We’re off to outer space! We’re leaving Mother Earth!

Leiji Matsumoto's Space Battleship Yamato, one of the most influential anime series ever, started 52 years ago today. "In the year 2199, the space battleship Yamato embarks on a voyage to the planet Iscandar, to retrieve a device that will rejuvenate a war-ravaged Earth."

#boardgames Saturday. All 3-player. New York City (Stefan Feld): Nice area control/auction game. A ton of fun, want to play again. Teotihuacan: City of Gods (Daniele Tascini) There's a lot going on in this game, but once you've figured it out a bit, it's smooth and fast. Definitely a play-again.

Had a great time today at Garden City Board Game Day #boardgames Game 1 was El Grande, one of the first area control games (Came third of three). Great to get the classic game out again. (1 hr) Game 2 was Vantage. We won an epic victory (Mission and Destiny). We probably could have finished...

...in close to 3 hours, but we pursued "total" victory and it was about 4 1/2 hours, including a break for lunch, etc. Super glad to get it to the table for a three player game, my first time not playing solo. But it's not a weeknight game at all.

I'm basic. I like listening to sports talking-people talk about American Football while I work. (ESPN brings back Skip Bayless). Nope. Fuck that. I hate football now. Time for a new sport. I wonder if ESPN 8 "The Ocho" has Jai Alia? Maybe I'm a Jai Alai guy now?

#boardgames Played the first of 4 games (a "campaign season") for Heat: Pedal to the Metal. (Track: Great Britain, 4 player, no NPCs). Came 2nd in a photo finish (same distance, but was on the outer line). Easy to learn, plays quickly, always enjoy playing it*. *NPC cars are the thieves of joy.

#boardgames Played a four-player game of House of Fado, a game of competing Portuguese music restaurants. Apparently, mechanically, a "select slice" of The Gallerist (but I've never played that). Anyway, I came away with a win. Fun, would lie to try again. About an hour. (Picture not ours).
