This is a thread of hard-won tips and tricks for preventing the brain from falling over - or, at the very least, mitigating any falling over that may still occur, despite best efforts. Please do add yours to the list

Have to walk down for my regular physio appointment shortly; the thought of doing that overly-familiar walk is *so boring*, even on meds, that it fills me with disproportionate despair. However, if I trick my brain into thinking 'I am going out to listen to a podcast', it's instantly more achievable

As ever, three quarters of "look at this asshole" is always "look at this". Don't do PR for the fash. Don't give free advertising to the worst bastards. There is no dunk witty enough to warrant amplifying their hate.

Brazilians recommending not to amplify right-wing talking points by dunking and quoting, as a winning strategy Next day, my tl is full of people dunking on rfk jr I literally would not have seen the bigotry if it wasn't for y'all repeating it. That's exactly what the Brazilians were on about!

Ignore, block, simply do not respond. Nothing they say is ever in good faith. The lack of engagement alone will drive them into a frothing rage. Let that sustain you as you refrain from posting.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Oh my god what a piece of shit the brother is. Absolutely zero understanding of the value of women's labour. Similar thing happened to my mum except she never got a penny for it

Oh my giddy aunt we've done it. After a couple of months in The Pit™, we are now well enough to gather round the cosy glow of the microphone & have a reckon. Puppets! Art! Cranks! Molluscs! The ontological evil of generative AI! That's a Garfield podcast right there www.patreon.com/idlmpodcast/...

I take a Fortean approach. I don't believe in 'ghosts', but I do believe that most people's experiences of such things are real to them, which is not the same thing at all. Having said that I do NOT like passing the dark staircase at 3am when I have to piss, what if Something comes up it >:(

I annoy the hell out of myself. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool skeptic/rationalist in my 50s, but I only have to watch one documentary about the supernatural, and at 4am the following morning, I delay going to the bathroom for as long as I can because of all the dark entities that are surely lying in wait.

I am consciously aware that neither of those things actually 'did' anything, in the sense that a 'real' magical practitioner would have you believe, but that didn't matter to the bit of my brain that still wants to hoot and gibber when it sees a tree that vaguely looks like a man's scowling face

Humans have the capacity for intellectual and critical thought, rational discourse, and the scientific method, while *at the same time* being these beautiful, complex, ape-shaped bags of dirty seawater and stardust who can put two googly eyes on a rock and suddenly see a spirit in it

I have done a lot of formal therapy over the years, which was super useful, but honestly two of the biggest things that ever helped were 1) painting a picture of my intrusive thoughts and yelling at it and 2) conducting a 'ritual' to 'banish bad vibes' from something that happened when I was younger

Never been in the slightest bit tempted. Legalise it, regulate it, massive warning labels, regulate advertising, treat addiction as a medical and therapuetic issue. Begging this country to have an ounce of compassionate, evidence-based drugs policy

"This could have been an email." Aragorn whispers. "He ALWAYS pulls this shit in 'Any Other Business" Boromir replies, quietly. "It's why Faramir marked himself as busy when the invite went out."

Elrond tells the long story of the One Ring, from its forging in the Mountain of Fire, to its betrayal of Isildur at the Gladden Fields. Frodo is startled to learn that Elrond himself marched with Gil-Galad in the Last Alliance against Sauron, more than three thousand years ago.

Chris Claremont had me reaching for the dictionary three or four times per issue as a kid. Frictionless prose dies on the eye.

Yes, I will die on the hill of "Fuck off & stop internetifying literature". Yes, I will die on the hill of "The intended reader had no problem with reading long paragraphs in an EL Doctorow or Dorothy Lessing novel in 1974 & the intended reader will have no problem reading them in my novels either."

This has reminded me of a dream I once had where McDonald's had started offering something called a 'Smooth Ronald' on their menu; there was no indication as to the nature or provenance of this product

If you had one wish from a genie, and it would be guaranteed to happen, would you make it? I think I'd be too anxious about the potential 'monkey's paw' unknowns

'God, why do I feel so awful? I know the weather is shit, and everything has been wildly stressful, and I have far too much on, and work is doing my fucking head in, but why do I feel like even worse shit than usual?' *eats cheese and marmite sandwich* 'Oh'

Wangle-BOO-ry@wangleberry.bsky.social

Eat a goddamn sandwich. Eat a babybel. Have a banana. Something easy to reach for. Whatever it is, eat something and have a glass of water. Our bodies and minds are not separate entities and the tiger needs nutrition and enrichment.

Watching "How to Get to Heaven from Belfast" on Netflix you forget how good some of the late-90s and early 00s British pop music was. You also realise how, of all the manufactured boy and girl bands of that era, Girls Aloud shit on everyone else from a great height.
