Can't let this go yet: October 26 is the last day to register or update your registration with any name change, change of address, etc., if you live in Washington State. Do you want help reminding your neighbors about this? Let me know and I'll get you the script I've been sharing with mine.

My ballot arrived yesterday and I voted and dropped it off this morning. Highly encourage doing this so you feel productive in a satisfying way on the weekend.

I have some artwork in a group show down in Georgetown, starting Oct. 3. What art? Uh, I forgot to take pictures. So it's a surprise for you and, by the time the show closes, possibly also me. I swear I'll get better about that.

A friend very kindly tried to send me a fountain pen ink sample and I am devastated to share with you the beautiful paper towel that came wrapped around the almost empty vial.

It's started raining, so this is the first day in Seattle that actually feels like autumn to me (rather than hinting boldly at it; the smell started a couple weeks ago and leaves have been turning here and there). Weepy persistent rain is a core part of the season for me.

I may need to get some better lamps, though. It's just after noon and the gloom is beautiful but I'm working on a painting and I really need to see the full spectrum of color.

Dreamed last night that I made a Venn diagram comparing Schumer and Merz and they both thought it was complimentary. Sometimes I wish I dreamed about my teeth falling out or going out in public naked.

I've signed onto an open letter of authors (and publishers) who support the striking workers of the Cleveland Public Library system. If you're an author or publisher and want to sign on too, there's information about how to do so! Tell your friends, etc. tinyurl.com/cplsolidarity

I use the Submission Grinder to track my short story submissions, and it is a great and convenient tool. Incidentally they have a "recent activity" section on the main page and I wanted to send congratulations into the wider internet for this one person in particular:

I love that my notebooks don't have to be comprehensible to anyone else. Baba Yaga, I write. I add a question mark and underline it all significantly. Then I draw a little house with chicken legs. Do I actually explain? I do not.

Delta, presumably: please, Seattle, please spend your money on an international summer vacation. The Irish, presumably: you know it's like 15c and rainy right now, right? The Summerlands, obviously: come child, step into the stone circle and dance among us, never to tire or worry or return...

Ah, the joy of a Seattle morning, roving the streets with an $8 coffee, listening to the bleating of lime scooters as the urban everyperson takes it upon themselves to make sure they're no longer blocking sidewalks, bus stops, and disabled access points.

Two married professors and their son are being held in ICE detention, despite being legal permanent residents and having no criminal records. All, apparently, because their mom/MIL was a translator for the Iranian hostage takers in 1979, before they were even born. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

thenation.comOne Woman’s Message From the Hell of ICE DetentionMy husband, son, and I have been locked up for months—despite being permanent residents with no criminal record. It is an unendurable, unending nightmare.

On this, the most special of days (ok, international left-handers day, which I didn't know was a thing until about three hours ago), one of my parents has finally done it: sent me AI slop. I knew this was coming. I was still not prepared.

I've seen Jimothy painted, animated, engraved, and carved in Fordite. The city's thrown impromptu award ceremonies, art contests, and raves in a raccoon's honor, and all I can think is that we should do more of this enthusiastic, creative community and less of... quite a lot really.

Imagine if we cared about the net benefit to society of... caring for one another? Making weird art and cool science instead of squandering resources for fleeting gain?

At 6:00 AM this morning, I woke to birdsong and sunlight, feeling refreshed, one of my cats nestled against my ribs. And then the other cat leaned over the headboard and puked on my foot. I'm not sure today will recover.

I snapped this photo a few weeks ago and finally got around to looking up the number. It's live. You can leave a voice message. Too millennial for phones, but need to liquidate a certain something? Try webuysouls.com; they're harvesting up and down the coast, I'm sure for good reasons.

I don't understand how my Costco can stock century eggs and moon cakes, but the Mexican foods mostly taste like they were dreamed up during the infamous Great British Bake Off episode.

People outside Seattle keep asking me if I've heard of Jimothy as if Seattle hasn't already adopted him as our mascot for all things civic responsibility.

Join us next weekend to celebrate our newest local icon Jimothy as we present a proclamation in his honor to commemorate Jimothy Summer. We invite all local artists to bring their Jimothy-themed art for a friendly art competition. Long live, Jimothy!

At the first hint of thunder my cats get up and walk in an orderly, unbothered procession under the bed, with one last glance at me as if to make sure that I know I'm being an idiot for not joining them.

Me, to my ficus: Oh hey buddy, looks like you'll get some better light if I move you three inches this way. Ficus: J'accuse! Betrayal. I'm going to punish you Me: Your distinct lean tells me you've been craving this light. Ficus: .... (drops a leaf) (drops another) (grows three more)
