Next Monday I will be presenting our paper "Video Game Archaeology as Hauntological Practice: A Collaborative Autoethnography in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree" at #chi2026! The preprint is available to download here: kclpure.kcl.ac.uk/portal/en/pu... #archaeogaming #archaeology #hci #gamedev

A lot of us have seen the new photo of Earth, and I want it to serve as a reminder for how powerful such visuals can be. This was a short piece I wrote for Nightingale's fifth issue on nature, highlighting the Earthrise photo and what became after it was released.

While I have stepped down from my day-to-day role of Managing Editor, I look forward to continue being an active editor and contributor in new and similar capacities. Nightingale has been and will continue to be an important part of my career journey and I am thrilled for Teo and this new era!

A lot of people think that every international student admitted means one fewer spot for domestic students, when the opposite is more likely true - the tuition revenue international students bring allows public universities to provide substantial discounts to domestic students, improving access.

New Jackson+Williams piece is out and holy shit there are some outstanding points in this. Liz and Rua have repeatedly helped my thoughts evolve over the years. This does it again. This one isn't just about how "design for one, extend to all" is limited, but actively censors disabled people.

my statement on Ai from the mini-comic I'm making as syllabus for a new class I'm teaching this fall. It's simple, but I pretty much said all I have to say on it - it robs you of decisions and struggle - and the joy of being surprised. It robs you of learning...

It's hard to avoid recalling this passage from the English historian Tony Judt:

Nick Kapur@nickkapur.bsky.social

Most incredible about this is that IU-Bloomington has long been the no. 1 university in the world for teaching Asian languages and cultures, with many programs found nowhere else. They're slashing many of IU-B's most distinctive programs with zero thought or debate. They probably don't even know.

I'm looking for people to send me their favorite #dataviz blogs and newsletters, ideally independent ones not run by companies or organizations. Thanks in advance! 📊
