One way to know that most people don't value missing a flight at the last minute at merely the price of the ticket is how they react when a flight is oversold and the airline tries to pay people for their seat at the gate. . The late to the airport discourse is off the rails.

There are a lot of smart objections going around and Palantir has been evil for ages, but also these tech bros, smdh: 12. The atomic age is ending. One age of deterrence, the atomic age, is ending, and a new era of deterrence built on A.I. is set to begin.

Palantir put out a 22-point summary of their CEO's book The Technological Republic. It's pitched as a defence of the West, but if you read it through the VDA framework, verification, deliberation, accountability, what it's actually doing looks rather different. twitter-thread.com/t/2045574398...

I'd prefer to abolish ICE and make airlines pay for their own security. But given federal budgets, seems less dangerous to have these guys in airports around rich people. At least they're off the streets and away from normal people.

Tom Homan just announced on @cnn.com that ICE will be deployed to America's airports starting MONDAY. He says they won't do passenger screening. He also claims agents are so well trained that this should be no big deal. Here in Chicago, like Minneapolis, we've seen the truth about that 'training.'

international tourism is mostly (subsidized co2 emitting) consumption and displaying status for rich tourists, not concern for helping or understanding people near the destination see the coverage of Puerto Vallarta

It's important for sports to teach people, especially children, teamwork, dedication, all that jazz. But is curling maybe the GOAT sport for preventing any participant or observer from conflating athletics with toxic masculinity?

A lot of Schumer supporters here insist that he has his finger on the pulse and knows how to speak effectively to the idiots of America, in a condescending tone to perceived idiots on this site who don't get it. As an idiot, that seems too clever by half. Maybe say what's most important instead idk

Exactly. It's not to show the ICE officer was in danger—the video he took himself shows he obviously isn't—but to show their supporters that the victim deserved to be murdered. And to show their opponents they can and will murder them in cold blood and with impunity.

The talk of datacenters in space is even dumber than I had thought. Imagine replacing one datacenter with a swarm of 18,000 satellites the size of the International Space Station (ISS) and flying in formation with high speed data links! 1/3

At least according to scott manley, they want to solve cooling by distributing the compute among a swarm of satellites. For reference, the ISS averages ~120kW, and the ISS is far larger than any other satellite for now. Amazon's Indiana Data Center, for one example, is slated to use 2.2 GW. 2/3

I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered. He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here : www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/glo...
