I am reading IN THE MISO SOUP and it's wonderful and harrowing and I can tell it's going to be one of my favourite books of all time. Really squalid and sad night life stuff with a constantly increasing tension that eventually explodes into some of the most hideous violence i've ever read.

Never After Dark Fuyumi Ono’s The Frighteners. It’s official: the best horror films of 2026 are a Shudder original from the director of Thankskilling 2 and a J-horror throwback made by a white guy. As with The Cycle, go in cold. Insanely fun, would pair well with last year’s Dollhouse.

AFTER DEATH (Fragasso, 1989)

You probably know him best for Audition (which was made into *that* horror film) and Coin Locker Babies but my favorite work of his is Almost Transparent Blue, which I read as a freshman in college and I've been meaning to check out the film version, which he also directed. RIP. This one bums me out

Man, what news to wake up to, Ryu Murakami passed away. RIP.

Tonight it’s pizza, veggie chili, and a carp in the bathtub
