As a toddler, Denise Boucher was taken to St. Joseph’s residential school in Fort Resolution. When her grandparents tried to bring her home, the church refused. The last time her family saw her, nuns were dragging her inside as the door slammed. https://ow.ly/SiSo50ZSWKc
Today is Truth and Reconciliation Day, aka Orange Shirt Day. It's a paid holiday for bankers & politicians.
Indigenous people don't get the day off.
I don't go to Orange Shirt Day marches anymore because the local one flies the Canada flag, has huge numbers of cops, & the cops get thanked first.
Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to honour the survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never came home, and commit to walking the path of healing, justice, and respect with Indigenous Peoples. 🧡 #TruthAndReconciliation#NDTR
There are many good things about writing your first draft out long hand. It reinforces engagement and connection with the work, helps focus, but also you will have proof positive that it's the work of a human, not AI. The biggest issue for me is where to put all the damn spiral notebooks.
It would be very convenient for people like me if there was a verified list of businesses that have eschewed use of Gen AI. Increasing numbers of people have a desire to avoid Gen Ai because of the number of moral and practical issues, as well as the biggie, shoddy unreliable results.
Big names in AI and Silicon Valley tech announced yesterday that they're launching a boarding academy for 16 to 22 year olds.
(Would you trust the people in this scene with keeping an eye on minors?)

Women trying to succeed in Silicon Valley AI and effective altruist spaces are reporting feeling serious social pressure to attend sex parties - where people have reported being sexually assaulted, like below.
Events like Aella’s “Slutcon,” which is happening again this weekend.
Let us also remember this social milieu revolving around AI apparently aren’t great at age verification for events, considering a 13 year old claims he was able to get into AI group house parties:

"We were letting actual 8th graders sneak into our wild drug and sex parties at our Silicon Valley AI group house" is the most eyebrow-raising quote among many from that New York Times piece, IMO.

Our children matter to us just as your own matter to you. How do you determine the love a mother feels for her child? Who is the whiteness to take that upon themselves to rule over others? Our children were ripped from the arms of their parents, parents threatened with imprisonment if they didn't
The problem with using gen AI for art (aside from intellectual property theft, water & energy use, the danger of walking around like a head trauma victim re: jensen huang) art, be it visual, literary, musical, is about learning to observe deeply and process those observations based on experience.
This is boils down the problem to its essence. If we can't process the information we have access to, about society and power we will never be able understand it. If we can't understand it we will never be able to affect it.

NEW AI HUSTLE:
The AI folks are now pretending that AI will give a “democratization of the creative filmmaking process to marginalized and native peoples.”
My reply:
Ok, no. This in NO WAY helps marginalized or remote populations tell their stories because LLMs rely on MODELS.
Awful: Trump's Office of "Remigration" has just been exposed making sordid payments to authoritarian governments to take third-country deportees, leading to serious abuses.
Dems tell me they will try to defund the agency if they win power. They should. 1/

🚨 BREAKING: This Wednesday (9/16), the House Judiciary Committee will hold a markup on legislation that aims to give Big Oil companies sweeping immunity from any laws or lawsuits seeking to hold them accountable for their role in the climate crisis.
Timnit Gebru and Emily M. Bender telling you what the REAL Ai concerns are on the MIT Technological Review is the best proof I can offer that I really do love ya'll - www.technologyreview.com/2026/09/22/1...
in 2017, a trans reporter was fired at @marketplace.org for writing a blog post abt the need for journalists to resist rising fascism, racism and transphobia.
@kairyssdal.bsky.social, the host of the show, said nothing & let his colleague's career be murdered.
judge his hr tips accordingingly.
We cannot save ourselves with technology, particularly technology that "belongs" to some corporation. We can save ourselves by changing the way we think and live. Through Relationship, Reciprocity, Redistribution, and Responsibility we can save ourselves as we save eachother.
You know who can afford not to know their own address or phone number?
Tiny little babies and fucking billionaires.
These tech freaks are not normal people and their ideas undermine the lives of normal people. Reject them and their predatory ideology and technology at every opportunity.
Ezra Klein asked Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang about AI making kids worse at math and reading. Huang’s reply: “Does it matter?”
Then he said he doesn’t know his own address or phone number. “We’re going to lose some fine intellectual dexterity.” www.nytimes.com/2026/09/23/o...

Never been to the opera before?
Now’s your chance. We’re giving away 70,000 free tickets to the @metopera at the iconic Lincoln Center. Go to on.nyc.gov/opera to enter the lottery. There’s not a bad seat in the house.

A recent survey found that 92% of U.S. adults have delayed or avoided medical care due to high costs.
Meanwhile, a new study from Yale estimates that Medicare for All would save over 114,000 lives and $1 trillion a year.
If this country was truly “pro-life,” we would have universal healthcare.
For my newsletter, I wrote about Democrats coming out against "trans surgery for kids" (which do not happen) and how the myth took over our politics. www.burnsnotice.com/the-trans-ki...
apparently I've been walking around with bacterial bronchitis since Sept 1st, convincing myself I'm about to turn the corner and get well. Friends, I was not about to turn the corner and get well without antibiotics. Anyone else got medical anxiety out the wazoo from decades of being seen at IHS?
"For a man whose academic field was built largely on faulty studies to ignore the intellectual fraud in his circle and lash out at people like Arday for bad scholarship – well, psychologists used to call that projection" @virginiaheffernan.bsky.socialwww.thenerve.news/p/steven-pin...
Chipotle is working with surveillance company Palantir to build a “food safety risk platform.”
Should you be worried Palantir might be tracking how much guacamole you add to your burrito? Maybe not.
But you should be worried about what it’s doing for the federal government.
Why talk about how nuts the AI rationalist sex cult is, and not just focus on the (very real) risks and harms of AI?
Well, when we're discussing "who should get to regulate AI, and how," I think it's VERY relevant to talk about the antisocial, unsettling ways many people running US AI think.
Sometimes it's a weird experience being a non-academic poet. And by non-academic poet I mean someone who has been writing and performing poetry since the 1980s but never completed high school much less an English degree. #poetry
so Universal wants to block global distribution of the "MUSK" documentary, and the Ellisons seem likely to try to block the streaming release on HBO early next year if their takeover is approved in time... we all better plan on making the US theatrical release an absolute blowout event!
