One of my more interesting acquisitions this week is a real Soviet passport from 1977 to use in some photos to promote my games. It's battered and worn from years of use and it feels a little weird to have this little historical document in my possession.

I bought it for promoting my games but I'm also keen to be sensitive to history - this was someone's real passport and contains personal details and photos. They were born in 1941 and I've no idea if they're still alive but regardless of that I won't be sharing any photos with that personal info.

Plus: Getting the email that my @wyrdscience.bsky.social subscription is due to renew soon. Con: Realising it will ship while I'm away and I'll have to wait a whole extra week to read it. Plus: Knowing that every issue to date has been fantastic and that the new one will be worth the extra wait.

Questival, which I attended a couple of weeks ago, posted that the attendance for the day was over 1200 people which is great for a local first time event. I'm really hoping they can turn that momentum into a long term event. I suspect that next year I'll either get a table or apply to run games.

The exciting life of a hobbyist game designer - evaluating colour coded spreadsheets of character builds!

Why yes, I did just place a bid on eBay for some strips of microfiche so I can make some espionage photo mock-ups. Next, some hand made one time pads.

Somehow the various concept docs and drafts for my spy game have already crossed 15,000 words. There's a lot of repetition and ideas that have been rejected but for someone used to making small games it feels weird to have reached that number without intending to.

Me: I have made a 32 page SRD and a workbook and this is my first time running a thing @gshowitt.bsky.social, with a single pen and paper: here is how to fight God

Craig@whodo.bsky.social

I attended the inaugural Questival in Port Sunlight today and went to both of the game design workshops - it's fair to say that @fistfulofcrits.bsky.social and @gshowitt.bsky.social showcased two very different approaches to building a game!

End of the week and I'm looking forward to attending the inaugural Questival in Port Sunlight tomorrow. I'm hoping it becomes a regular event and one I can support by offering games or having a table at in the future.

While I've been adding many notes to the working doc I finally managed a solid block of focused writing on my YZE this evening, rewriting character talents and crit tables. It's still an early WIP but I'm looking forward to a public outing at Dragonmeet.

Congrats to the winners, while I'd have loved to have been amongst them it was lovely just to see The Words We Leave Behind be nominated for Best Indie RPG.

2026 Crit Award Winners for Best TTRPGs of the Year

What I want to be doing today: working on the cold war spy scenario I'll be running at Dragonmeet What I'm actually doing: prepping for a PhD viva (my first as an examiner) and creating mock datasets for an upcoming PG module.

Ways to ensure I take a proper lunch break: forget my swipe card and lock myself out of the office while nobody else is around.

Completed my first gunpla and I can definitely see the appeal of building more. This was only an entry grade model but plenty of articulation and detail and that's before I consider adding panel lining or paint.

Happy bank holiday weekend Brits & folks forced to share this island with us! We’re doing free shipping to the UK today/tomorrow, so why not treat yourself to the best tabletop game mags around, such as Secret Passages, Glaive & something called Wyrd Science, as well as a hangover… wyrd.science

I can certainly think of worse ways to spend a wet Saturday morning than annotating a 1957 map of Berlin with the location of locations known to have been used by intelligence organisations of the time.

Quickly followed up by the washing machine making broken noises and warping the seal beyond belief. Guess this bank holiday will include a traditional trip to Currys.

Fall of the Berlin Wall - I didn't really understand the significance beyond it was filling all of the news (and of course there were only 4 TV channels in the UK at that point).

Hi BlueSky, I humbly seek recommendations for two-player epistolary/ letter-writing games. I'm looking to actually physically send and receive papers (could be more than a letter, for example, an updated 'map'), it just needs to be easily played in letter-writing format ☺️ Any genre. Thanks! 💛

Today has very much been one where I've struggled to focus so I don't know why I thought I'd be able to sit down this evening and focus on converting game mechanics into python to test the play cycle.

Tonight's offering for the monthly Diversity & Dragons in Chester. I am committed to slowly working through my pile of unplayed smaller games.

This was our final timeline, with the majority of events placed into a loose order as we tracked the fall of New Eden. Overall an interesting game but as with many in this style I'd have personally appreciated additional guidance on framing the scenes and linking everything together.

I would have really liked some cards in Act 2 that specifically told you to revisit locations from Act 1 to see how they'd changed or to link locations via characters to continue their story. That's looking at it very much from a narrative perspective though and sometimes stories are just messy.

Looks like the ability to mute reposts from individual users is finally here so it's time to turn reposts back on in my feed and start muting them on a case by case basis.
