I don’r want to be the only Bluesky user who hasn’t reposted this. (Nine out of ten posts in my feed are this clip.) But also AES’s part of this exchange with this bigot is just . . . magnificent. Michigan is so blessed to have this talented and morally-centered rhetorician as a Senate candidate.

Abdul El-Sayed@abdulelsayed.bsky.social

This is Tommy. Tommy had a question about my allegiances. Listen to the end to hear about his.

I actually considered, for a moment, whether El-Sayed’s campaign might have planted Tommy in that crowd to make AES look awesome and go viral. Nope. Tommy turns out to be another braindead Republican stooge. bsky.app/profile/mari...

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

I don't think most Americans understand yet what a global laggard the USA is turning into here. Media instead told us that electric vehicles were a fad that didn't work.

John Bistline@bistline.bsky.social

Nepal passed 5% battery electric vehicle share in August 2021 and is at 75%. The U.S. passed 5% in October 2022 and is at 6%.

Ex-boss filed a $12 theft charge against an ex-employee because she got a restraining order in response to his creepy behavior. Charge was never prosecuted, but it gave ICE an excuse to arrest and detain her. Congratulations to the 58 Democrats who voted for the Laken Riley Act. You own this.

Let's go, Sam Forstag! That's how you stand up for trans people on the national stage. If congressional candidates in western Montana—one of the most competitive House races in the entire country—can stand up for trans folks in every aspect of our lives, democrats everywhere should take note.

Watch an ICE agent run down and then run over a man. The man was was then writhing on the ground, saying "You broke my leg! You broke my leg!" Agents didn't help him. And btw, the man wasn't the target of their operation.

M. Gessen has written a truly extraordinary piece about the "soft fascism" faced by transgender people in America, and by trans people in Kansas particularly. Beautifully written and reported, deeply humane. I really hope you'll read it. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/13/o...

Not to be some wild-eyed innocent, but I think it should be slightly bigger news that The Lancet have crunched the numbers and found that Musk's USAID cuts will kill 14 million people. And that's just by 2030. That's 9,600 people a day, every day, until the next world cup rolls around.

Max Miller is denying all the allegations against him and you can tell he's sincere because of the popped collar.

Read this whole thread, which closely examines the persistent assumption that centrists are generally more “electable” than leftists.

Hyde T. Voltyge@hydevoltyge.bsky.social

Ideological moderates are not a thing in the sense that 30% of the country agrees with Third Way. 30% of the country or whatever number you wish to use has *incoherent* ideological views that result in about a 50/50 split on issues. Centrism is not nearly as real as you think offline and outside DC.

I just can’t get over how stupid this discourse is. Bluesky wants Democratic officials who will fight, I get it. But think for just half a second about the goal these people are demanding Gov. Beshear to pursue. No words.

Dr. Jack Brown@drjackbrown.bsky.social

Gov. Andy Beshear is (finally) calling out Mitch McConnell:

Note that the tone of exasperated impatience—“(finally)”—is misleading as well as misguided. Beshear has been raising the salience of this issue, and doing anything more than that, as the people replying to that post are demanding, would be utterly foolish. bsky.app/profile/crai...

Craig Harrington@craigipedia.bsky.social

Andy Beshear isn’t “finally” calling Mitch McConnell out. The reason McConnell’s team produced the first proof-of-life photo was in response to a public letter from Beshear on July 8 and remarks on July 12 demanding answers on McConnell’s health and whereabouts. time.com/article/2026...

I agree that the Maine election is now a referendum on Collins’s votes to give ICE $70 billion and to confirm Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. But *both* votes are implicated in today’s murder of Joan Sebastian Guerrero, because he was a victim of a “Kavanaugh stop” based on racial profiling.

Micah@rincewind.run

the maine election is, unfortunately for susan collins, now a referendum on her voting for brett kavanaugh and to give ICE tens of billions of dollars with no strings attached, and no amount of Susan Collins Is Very Concerned posting is going to change that

After multiple murders by ICE/CBP, Ds refused to provide additional $$ for them w/out reforms & oversight. Rs were opposed to reform and unilaterally provided more $$ through reconciliation. Now ICE has enough to run at 4x capacity through 2029 — w/ LESS oversight than before. This is the result.
