This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.

Gawd damn, the man can't go more than 5 seconds without belitting voters. In some of these primaries the voters chose the Progressive/DSA candidate so he's the one that needs to stop holding his breath and stomping his feet like a spoiled brat.

If American democracy fails, everything people here care about - Gaza, climate change, spelling reform, whatever - gets worse. (Just ask the people now dying in Africa.) So prioritize your voting as if you're a reasoning, capable adult, and not a single-issue child holding your breath.

When it was Bernie Bros in 2016 and 2020 I argued constantly with them to suck it the fuck up and I'm going to be consistent here too. Voters made their choice. You don't have to like it but suck it the fuck up, Tom.

Nichols has to create these strawmen and false equivalencies because his ego can't contend with the actual positions honestly.

Tom Nichols@radiofreetom.bsky.social

I was tempted. But I think most people understand my point that if you present Americans with the extreme right and the extreme left, most of them will choose to go with the extreme right. So maybe don't create those kinds of choices.

I have never in my life felt insecure about my masculinity but these dudes seem to need to have it reinforced every five seconds or they worry they might be gay.

Newsmax host: "I'd like to talk a little bit about the Supreme Court ruling with transgender. The backdrop today is that President Trump is at the Teddy Roosevelt presidential library. We know how tough Teddy Roosevelt was -- biological man, real man's man."

The "single issue voter" thing a canard and this coward knows it. Or maybe he doesn't, i'm convinced he couldn't steelman a Progressive's platform even if you spotted him Universal Healthcare.

Tom Nichols@radiofreetom.bsky.social

I already spent days here arguing about why Gaza wasn't a genocide, not doing that again. But if the war in Gaza is your primary issue, you're not really all that concerned about democracy in America, you're just another single-issue voter demanding that the world acknowledge you.

Some "never Trump Republicans" are showing you their true selves. They refuse to acknowledge Israel's genocide, refuse to acknowledge all the data and polls showing Democratic voters and a majority of Americans oppose Israel's actions, and demand that Dems move to the Center. They can walk. Bye.

Those other stances are bonkers IMO but she is potentially just one of 435 Congressional members and I firmly believe if she wastes her time focused on bad ideas that'll never happen she's going to be ostracized by the Party and voters and won't last more than a single term.

I also recognize what works for voters in NY won't work for my small town in Ohio and I think that's fine. With 535 Reps it's absurd to think every one of them should be carbon copies of a ubiquitously preferred candidate. Fringe policy ideas will get push back by both Dem Establishment and voters.

Back to the list. I think the Ukraine bit is a little misleading. I can't find where she said Ukraine shares fault for the conflict. What I found is she has blamed the US and Russia for the conflict but beyond that I think there is a lot of conjecture stemming her "babies, not bombs" stance.

So what I don't want to do is get put into a position of defending comments she has made that I don't agree with, which is MOST of that list you shared. However, I will say that Chevalier has deleted the account those appeared on AND made comments that she has "grown" since then.

I'll throw Platner in here too. Troublesome past, I'm glad I don't have to make the choice to vote for them BUT both have claimed to be different people today. The voters are willing to give them a chance to prove it since they are also promising to deliver on policies that are popular.

Nichols's philosophy could be summed up as: Doesn't matter if you lose as long as you play the game the right way. Voters see through the milquetoast, consultant molded politicians who are "good at politics." Voters like a messy, authentic fighter; not a polished, donor approved turd.

And with a generation of chronically online folks coming of age politically we have get used to the fact that nearly everyone will have plenty of skeletons on full display instead of redacted in an Epstein file.

Dems should confront it directly rather than alienating popular candidates who are "bad at politics." Make it clear the bad ideas will not enjoy support within the Party and get behind the good ideas that are popular with a majority of Americans. Trust the voters to moderate their Representatives.

I'm tired of Dems having to play by a different set of rules while MAGA gets to be openly vile and undemocratic. Trump has 34 felonies & found civilly liable for S.A. with no political consequences and we're here fretting over something that'll never happen while ignoring popular ideas that could.

First, I want to reiterate that I recognize the "good politics" argument though I was speaking from my own perspective as a voter. In one response Tom Nichols offered the truism "If you're explaining you're losing," my counter is "Don't let perfect be the enemy of good."

I disagree with Chevalier on Prison/Police Abolition but I do agree with her diagnoses of the issue as well as some of her other ideas - as did the people who voted for her. Not giving the "normal" answer is a risk but I also see a risk in the Dem establishment spitting in voters' faces.

I haven't seen Cape Verde put a beating like that on Spain since the 1640 dissolution of the Iberian Union

The word "Populism" doesn't actually indicate anything. It's any political movement that pits working class against elites. Trump's platform that attracted nationalists and ethnocentrists. To suggest he would have "easily won" as a Democrat would be to suggest a completely different Trump campaign.

Nate Vack@njvack.bsky.social

I actually believe Trump would have won the 2016 presidency as a Democrat nearly as easily as he did as a Republican. Gutting the Democratic party would have gone just about the same, too. Not saying as all populists have evil goals, but I think it crosses party lines pretty well.

Hey guys...Americans might be struggling to put food on the table and gas in their car but at least Kevin O'Leary will get to play dress-up and go to the Ball! Kevin O'Leary continues to be, by far, the most worthless pundit on any of these talk show circuits.
