Got my new M5 Ultra Mac Studio yesterday. Holy crap. Over 3x faster than my old M1 Ultra. Encodes an episode to Blu-ray spec in ~10 minutes, dual pass. Can't wait to try 4K, since those took FOREVER

This shit is so cool. They took away being able to afford computers for this shit.

Business Insider confirms it: Amazon has warehouses of GPUs that can’t be installed, and is buying them so far in advance that a supply chain team said they “didn’t have a clear forecasted path” to installing them. www.businessinsider.com/amazon-220-b...

I am delighted to announce that the forthcoming BD/UHD release of AD Police will feature brand new commentary tracks from screenwriter Sho Aikawa (eps 1-2) and dub director Michael Sinterniklaas (ep3). This was Sinterniklaas' directorial debut. Is this Aikawa's first US interview?

I don't mind saying that these are INCREDIBLE commentaries. I learned so much about the inner-workings of the 80s OVA scene, and the cottage 90s dub scene in Wilmington, NC.

Vampire Princess Miyu arrived, but for some strange reason it has box art!? Oh well, I’ll just have to take matters into my own hands.

I think one reason why Americans eat so much more than Europeans comes down to the design of our toilets. EU toilets have such a deep trap that, no matter how big it is, you never feel any sense of accomplishment. You never feel like you’d win a prize.

I have just had the worst sushi of my life. Tuna rolls with peanut butter. A smoked whitefish roll with whole grain mustard and dill. Do you have any idea how bad sushi has to be for me to NOT eat it? Couldn't get more than 2 pieces in. Cannes, France officially takes the crown from Edinburgh.

Cannes is a tiny city but might have the most attractive people on the planet. Literally, half of the service workers here could model. Too bad there’s not much to do here aside from the trade show I’m at. (Also all the food is very bland and basic white people fare.)

Vampire Princess Miyu will start to ship when the new slipcovers arrive on Wednesday. There are over 2000 packages to ship, so it’ll take the warehouse several days to chug through all of them. Should all ship before the release date of 10/11.

On audiobook five of Dungeon Crawler Carl. This appears to be the year of nerdy niche lit categories breaking containment, and I am here for it. Also I now mentally announce “NEW ACHIEVEMENT!” to myself whenever I accomplish something dumb.

Join me in celebrating the tenth anniversary of my #1 anime movie of all time. It's a nuanced masterpiece that deftly delves into the complexities of disability, bullying, guilt, depression, suicidal thoughts, and ultimately redemption. And it's gorgeous. www.fandompost.com/2026/09/24/t...

Frame stitch of a recap illustration of Sasuke, holding a Kokeshi doll, the remains of the ninja who gave it to him littering the ground. From episode 2 of the 1968 anime TV series Sasuke (サスケ)

A friend of mine in film school had a night job as the bellman for Duncan Sheik’s building. Said he was super nice, and he’s often invite him up to do blow. Y’know, in retrospect… 🤔

I'm going to MIPCOM, the big content trade show next month, where I will inevitably be approached by a bunch of tech bros offering AI dubbing and subtitling. I will then smile very large, look them in the eye, and say that I would rather shit directly into my own hands and eat it.

I'm still new at this, but I would think, if I was trying to attract investors, I would be trying to tell a growth story and pointing out how uniquely positioned we are to tap into an underserved market or something.

Finally bought an AppleTV for my office TV display. Every modern TV now spies on you to a shocking degree (incl video from other sources, and mics even when it's off), so turning its internet off and using a device with better security seemed like a no-brainer. Also the interface is WAY better.

Obvs every streaming platform tracks you, and Apple has its share of data gathering, but so far it seems the spying is mostly kept to a minimum. And nobody spies on you like LG. They're by far the worst.

I was up until three in the morning dealing with bullshit on the Japan side. Today idgaf. I just had a giant sloppy double cheeseburger, and now I’m going for a pastry. I want my blood to have the consistency of Play-Doh

Laserdisc player died. Totally dead, won't power on. Fuse is fine. The only place I could find that would repair it held onto it for 3 months without giving me an estimate. If anyone knows a place, hmu, I'm resigned to buying another player.

Had an utterly bizarre night last night. I joined some friends to go out dancing at Zebulon, a local hipster club/venue. The DJs were literally the worst I’d ever heard — could not mix songs AT ALL. But what they were playing was bizarre. Unrecognizable 70s and 80s dance with indecipherable lyrics…

It was like a cover had been intentionally tweaked to avoid copyright detection. Nothing could be Shazamed. Other songs with lyrics I could make out, I googled, and got nothing. By the end of the night we started to wonder if we were being pranked or this was some weird art project.

At first we were like “wow, these are deep cuts,” but after a while we suspected it was AI, but the two scruffy dudes were DJ’ing off vinyl. Finally one of us asked, and they denied it. Finally they played a cover of Rod Stewart’s If You Want My Body that changed the lyrics and chords.
