The Fist of Memory by Wole Talabi. 5/5 stars. My first experience with Talabi was magnificent! An intriguing story about an assassin, an astrophysicist, and aliens that wraps up beautifully! #NetGalley #TheFistofMemory #DAWbooks See more on my blog: thatbookisonfiyah.blogspot.com/2026/10/book...

Yep. This is where I am right now. As much as I detest the encroachment of AI into literary (and other) spaces, I'm also getting tired of these articles that only seem to target BIPOC or Global South authors using fruit from the poisoned tree.

"But while First Contact stories are ostensibly about humans meeting aliens, they aren’t really about that. Not really. They’re about us." Author @wtalabi.com recommends five African First Contact stories:

Finished watching season 2 of The Gentlemen and while I enjoyed it a lot, I'm mostly just annoyed it took me so long to pick up on all the "Godfather" references they baked into it.

Hey US friends! Want to read a novel that's kinda Nigerian John Wick meets Arrival by way of The Three Body Problem, Or what you'd get if Carl Sagan's Contact and Ghost Dog: The Way Of The Samurai had a very African baby? I've got you. Win a free copy here: www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sho...

- Tomb Raiders Of The Lost Ark. - Children Of Men In Black. - The Empire Strikes Back To The Future. - RoboCopland. - Terminator 2: Judgment Day Of The Dead. - The Godfather Of The Bride. - Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragonheart. - Rush Hour Of The Wolf. - The Princess Bridesmaids.

Infusing African philosophies into the soul of a First Contact narrative for my new novel THE FIST OF MEMORY got me thinking about the history and present of First Contact in general and in African SF more specifically and so naturally, I wrote an article about it.

Awesome humble bundle:

Africanfuturism (one word, not two) is concerned with visions of the future, is interested in technology, leaves the Earth, skews optimistic, is centered on and predominantly written by people of African descent and it is rooted first and foremost in Africa. 🌍🤖👽🚀🪐

A decent book bundle available for not much. (If you’re in the UK then a VPN is your friend) www.humblebundle.com/books/africa...

Africanfuturism is an anchor point for science fiction that is not just by Africans, or set in Africa, but about Africa. This is an excellent sampler from my brilliant publisher @dawbooks.bsky.social Its a great deal! www.humblebundle.com/books/africa...
