Our new paper, “Caught in the crossfire: electoral spillover effects of accommodating the radical right”, is now available open access in Party Politics! Written with Jasmin Rath, Jan Berz, Constantin Wurthmann and Sarah Wagner:

“You can tell everything about a person by who their friends are.” - Sex and the City (S2E3) A quote about dating, but it also applies to politics. Who a party chooses to accommodate sends a signal about its values and priorities - and that signal can extend beyond the party itself.

Do women candidates help the far right? Not in Britain, finds @turnbulldugarte.com in #EJPG. In 2024, Reform UK's women candidates won no more votes than men, and the gender gap in Reform support was, if anything, wider where it ran a woman.

We are smart people. We have theories, data, and answers to everything. But not to this. How someone who is one of us, can leave, within a moments notice. Become a memory in a second. He leaves us and we can't say no more. We can just remain silent. Try to see the world from his eyes for a moment.

Philipp leaves a hole. A hole in our minds that noone but him could ever fill. With his own creativity noone could emulate, with his own style noone could attempt to copy, with his own expectations noone could could fulfill, not even himself. Now we stand in front of this and dont know what to do.

Over the last year Philipp became more than a colleague, but a friend. He leaves us speechless, depleted, and bereft of one of the smartest and precious people we could consider our own. I can't fathom what his family feels now. The news of his death felt like a punch to the face.

Devastating news.... Philipp was one of the first persons I met at a conference as PhD student (he shared so many advices with me about how this conferencing and PhD'ing works) and we shared the enthusiasm about Central and Eastern European Politics.

Ein paar Worte zu „Linke Politikwissenschaftler wie Tarik Abou-Chadi…“ Eine ungute und gefährliche Entwicklung, dass sich solche Formulierungen immer häufiger finden. Gerade in Situationen, in denen wissenschaftliche Evidenz der eigenen Argumentation entgegensteht. Das hier ist ein Paradebeispiel.
