I guess my October canon event is that my main 98 box just decided it was done existing and refuses to pass video whatsoever now. Even on a known good video card. And both my X800s are acting up in weird ways. This system worked fine when it was put away!

So! Per VCF SoCal's instagram, it's going to be on February 20th and 21st, and the venue is changing! Thankfully my ride + housing is still good to go with the changed venue, but it being toward the end of the month is going to be Not Fun financially. Might look at offloading some things next year.

I really do have to wonder how much the token budget is for those guys trying to clone every productivity app since they’re having to vibe-maintain what, *thirteen* apps now?

While I will sing iOS 27's praises for the most part, good god Apple has gone two for two on botching macOS releases because like, home sharing has been very hit or miss after upgrading from Sequoia.

Actually, I'm gonna really unload about how awful the macOS 27 Music app is. You can't just quick look at albums in Recently Added/Albums like you can on iTunes (pictured). Music makes it a chore to browse by album, and it really, seriously cheeses me off. How could you regress from iTunes? HOW?!

Say you want to listen to an album while you're browsing the album view. iTunes lets you double click the album to start playing/has a play button on the album thumbnail itself if you hover over it. Guess how Music handles this? In Music you have to right click the thumbnail, and click play. Sigh.

I'll connect the first time: Music is there, but it doesn't understand that this is a home share. So I connect again, and usually that nudges it enough that it sees the home share and lets me pull music from my desktop machine. Now? It's just seeing NOTHING on the second reconnect. Grrrrr.

This screengrab from iFixit's iPhone Duo video kinda highlights why I'm probably never going to own a foldable, like ever. The repair costs are just so damn high if that screen breaks.

Name a fictional character’s death you still haven’t gotten over. I was tempted to, Y’know, list one of the beeg spoilers for E33 here but instead going to list the last game that made me feel something when someone died. (And yes he can be brought back, but still. The way he died is horrific)

(This is seriously tied with Crono from Chrono Trigger but this kinda took priority because I’m actually replaying Suikoden as we speak and this scene is fresh in my mind, hoo boy.)

Ah yes We’re in that transitional phase with the weather where it’s like…we get to play the game of “is it safe to put away the air conditioner?” Boy howdy I guessed wrong on that game yesterday because my room turned into a damn oven.

Y’know if you’re a “famed” security journalist maybe uh, if you’ve apparently discovered something bad, stop and evaluate things and sanity check everything before hopping on social media and going bombs away on something?

What happens when you burn all your money on AI and don’t have anything left in the marketing budget

I've been seeing this a lot with retro Apple stuff and it just breaks my heart. Which is why I rarely if ever trust any new product designed for retro systems short of things like SATA adapters that have been around forever (and yet are still getting produced somehow)

the only thing worse than all the people flagrantly filling the retrotech world with AI slop are the ones doing it while trying to hide that that's what they're doing

Also because I’m Shuttles Georg over here I forgot the QBiC was still hooked up and thankfully it still fires up like it hasn’t been left for a month and the Cube’s getting most of the attention

Also shouts to @corbin.io for ImageShare because I did NOT expect it to work on Win9x and it just…did, incredible. (Which is how I got the clean screenshot for the post above)

Now that it’s no longer the middle of the night finally time to enjoy the fruits of my labor. Hopefully Bluesky doesn’t crunch the audio too much. Also some irony in playing a song named “Angels Never Die” on…the Satanicube. But Satan was an angel I guess so it kinda fits? (Also, PARTY MODE)

"bu-bu-but xo, the switch 2 is only as powerful as a PS4, the Xbox can easily outmatch it it's not powerful wtf" all the power in the world matters not if people can't afford the fuckin' thing

but yeah at this point the only "next gen stuff" I care about is whatever hits the Switch 2 and whatever Sandfall cooks up for whatever the next game in the Clair Obscur series ends up being

Saw a fun Reddit take, that Sony and such can charge $1000 for consoles because people buy phones for that much. Except…I’d wager the vast majority of people never pay that $1000+ up front, they get phones heavily subsidized through their carriers or take it on 36mo financing.

Shit, that’s how *I* get my phones, you think I’m paying $1500 every couple of years for these? LMFAO I wish I was that rich.

I don’t plan to have the Cube like this when at shows, just kinda demoing that yes, it can change color now. There’s an RGB controller around back and I can just change the color based on mood.

Anyway after working on the HK stuff I am feeling like sitting down and listening to some music on my good good setup so I’m busting out the headphone amp and the Oppo PM-3s and having a good time. Using my phone because all the iPods that work with this are some form of dead/broken/problematic

It's ugly, but with that, the iSub/Soundsticks are riding the gun again (and ready for Mactoberfest next month)

oh yeah while I’ve been out I started Deltarune ch. 2 and truer words have never been spoken

Coming back around to this: I’ve been used to the iPhone camera just feeling like an incremental upgrade even with Apple talking a big game every year, but the 18 Pro feels like a pretty sizable leap. I’ve been actually pretty impressed with its output, even over the 17 Pro.

Okay, you guys can have a wee bit of a treat. Satanicube got a substantial lighting upgrade while I’ve been out. And now she’s RGB! I also got another Studio Display from VCFMW (thanks to @ronscompvids.bsky.social for sending it to me) that I was able to combine with my existing one to fix it.

Crossposting this because truth be told I had planned to start coming back to things after my doctor’s appointment but maybe that’s not a good idea and I should just…yeah.

I think also, some things are gonna change. I'll probably come back here, near term. But for the most part it's just gonna be Business(tm), project stuff. Doing stuff at shows. Less personal life bits. Also probably going to start unfollowing if too much AI Shit makes it into my timeline. Sorry.

I'm just in such a space right now that I think I'm gonna just, like, delete all the social media apps off my phone, go on a hiatus from everything, and just focus on my work and play some video games or whatever. The future sucks.

And to everyone hyping up that “open source Adobe replacement” saying it’s gonna change software forever? This is who you’re hyping up. I hope you’re proud of yourselves. Why even make stuff anymore when these shitheads are just gonna steal it for their slop machine.

I feel like it’s worth reiterating: You’re not gonna be able to have a conversation about what good AI can do while the elephant that is OpenAI/Anthropic/Grok is sitting in the room. Due to the actions of these companies and the evil they have enabled, it casts a long shadow over everything.
